Go back and listen to the battles between benzino, canibus, ja rule etc. It's not as clear cut as everyone made it out to be back then.

He switched genres and quit rapping after the beef.  If you like punk rock pop, sure he is on top.  Fact is that nobody believes he is a serious rapper anymore.  Even he admits he is a mainstream sellout.  In a rap competition he can't even sniff Eminem, but Em did him a huge favor by convincing him to quit rap.  Turned out to be a good career move.
