neva was, neva will.

strong as phuck, and a proper nate dogg release (maybe his only one), but far from classic.
For me it is without a doubt. Still bumps it nowadays

They can still produce a nice body of work. They just didn't use the right formula for Missionary, in 2024, nobody cares about what Snoop has to say, but people will vibe to his stuff, groovy shit. He is all about vibes!

In the Esquire interview (thank you The Predator for sharing that) Snoop seems to acknowledge that this isn't his usual soundscape and that the album was not well received by all listener: "Yeah. A lot of people not used to hearing such a body of work because music has been so microwaved and so watered down lately that the reception has been amazing. But I think it's going to take a while for people to actually get it who don't understand it. Those who get it, already got it."

This somehow goes hand in hand with the first impressions shared in advance, Tray Deee for example. I didn't get the impression they thought the album was impressive at the time. Rather it was more along the lines of the production level being great, but the sound being different to what they had hoped for.

Problem explained something similar in the podcast a few weeks ago. He's super disappointed about which songs made it onto the final tracklist. As a fan, he would have chosen different songs that he found incredible. He had emphasized several times that the old Dre and Snoop are still there (he heard those songs), they just didn't choose those songs for whatever reason. I'd be interested to know which songs Snoop would have chosen, since he fought for “Sticcy Situation” to make it onto the album.

213 was and still is a classic.
Joysticc, another sommer, MLK, absolutely, keep it gangsta, twist yo body,... all classics songs

You listed 6 songs. There are 19 tracks on the album. You consider an album classic when 6/19 are classic?

That is crazy to me.

The Hard Way was amazing. I don't care about Warren G not producing it, the album was great either way

Still would love to hear the shit outta luck EP, the songs that didn’t make the album.

And about the 213 album, from what I remember about half of it was dope and half wasn’t very good.  Would be nice to see it show up on streaming services.

Didn’t you see the 3 dots? which means the list continues. yes I mentioned six classic songs! and the list goes on. There are no songs that I don't like or that I skip. So yes it's a classic. and like all classics, there are songs that we prefer! I could have cited "Find a way" "So Fly" "whistle while you hustle" "Appreciaton" "lil girl". shit that's 14... maybe that's not enough?

it’s the principle of a personal classic in fact. It's not because the MAJORITY doesn't consider it a classic that I don't have the right to love it and make it a classic in my eyes. i bump the shit outta that album. and on top of that even the unreleased ones are on fire. the same for the Single / EP Groupie Luv produced by Warren G. there is no reason to find this album classic when you have NATE DOGG on each track with incredible vocals.
Coming back to Missionary, Sting, Jelly Roll and BJ the Chicago Kid are definitely better than a full album by Snoop Nate & Warren G

I just listened to the instrumental version of Missionary today and I gotta say the music itself really does sound stellar from a production standpoint. I think the problem is with the vocals included they kinda suffocate the beats on each song but I can understand where Dre wanted the vocals in the forefront cause Snoop hasn’t sounded this nice on the mic in a long time.

The album didn't get a solid video for a song.

But then again, they did the same thing with Compton.

At least this got a movie.
