yeah you understand because you old enough in the Doggystyle era. It's exactly as you said. Though, I would argue that Topp Dogg and Last Meal (aside from the No Limit influence) is more along the lines of what fans were expecting so those two albums were worthy followups and better than Doggfather in my opinion as an older head ...and Sccit, I think it was just misunderstanding, because I'm not flexing it's just a discussion, everything was cool. Maybe I shouldn't have said "here we go again" because it made it sound like I was complaining
Yeah, IDK if flop is the right word, but i was disappointed. It has aged well and a lot of the unknown rappers on it at the time became Westcoast names. People were expecting another Doggystyle and it wasn't that. Now that we know no album Snoop has ever released has been another Doggystyle, we can look at Tha Doggfather out of context and appreciate it as a decent album.
i’m just not sure why u randomly brought it up here because it sounded like u were replying to someone who claimed doggfather was a flop
I don't think Doggfather was a flop, it did go double platinum. I guess if compared to Doggystyle, but he's never seen those numbers again.
The initial post that started the thread said it was a flop.It was a disappointment because it was released a week after Makaveli. Hard to act to follow in November of 1996.
i see where the confusion isi thought gang banger and infinite were the same person since i have avis turned offmy bad
Classic issue i remember buying this one as soon as it came out, same with the live from death row from vibe & new york times piece on death row....glorious times
Salute! Not sure I saw the New York Times piece. But that would be a great collectors item I'd pay 40-50$ if I find that on Ebay. (I just recently bought the New York Times Reagan attempted Assassination issue from Ebay from 81' for $40 btw, and it was a great read)The Vibe issue you are talking about I think I read all of it before. It's fascinating when you look at these old issues because there is a lot of revisionist history and people forget how things used to be. Like for example, if I remember correctly that VIBE issue has that classic MAFIA style photo that has the 4 pillars of Death Row -- Pac, Dre, Suge, and Snoop. Which was like the pinnacle of rap that at that time all 4 of those stars were aligned--but the surprising part is Dre is saying how Suge is like his homie for life or some shit like that giving props to Suge like he's the man and gets shit done, I can't remember exactly how he worded it.
