What makes an artist pop?

i see a lot of people call ja...nelly...and ashanti pop...but i dont see why theyre pop and people like snoop...dre...jay-z...etc arent...ja uses hip hop producers...so does nelly...as does ashanti...ja raps about street shit...nelly does sometimes...and ashanti sings about love...like most pop artists...but...if shes considered pop for that...then r & b shouldnt even be a category...they should just call ALL r & b pop...i mean damn...if its on mtv...its on bet...on the radio...etc...its pop...no matter who the artist is...thats the way i see it...

i think people mistake pop and novelty  artists

it's not bad to be pop it just means you're popular


i don't consider ja rule, nelly , lil flip, david banner, bone crusher,  and all those other trash artists as pop artists , cuz they arn't gonna be Popular 10 years from now, they're all novelty


 recent examples are juvenile and silkk the shocker. once the industry changed people lost interest . what DOESN"T make you novelty is if you're still relavent when times change.....that's why peeps like jay-z, snoop dre eminem and such are on a higher level than ja rule and nellly when labled as pop

people been making tracks for the radio since the year dot... you can spot eminem's radio tracks a mile off.. same with snoop.. (these days if the neptunes made it... last time it was timbaland... he has whoever's on top) its stupid not to... but it really depends how far you take it.
