The Lakers, picking 27th overall in the 2002 NBA Draft selected Fresno State's Chris Jeffries. He wasn't in the the purple and gold for long. The Lakers then traded the rights to Jeffries, along with Lindsey Hunter to the Toronto Raptors for the rights to the 20th overall pick, Missouri's Kareem Rush and veteran forward Tracy Murray. Rush was named Honorable Mention All-America by The Associated Press as a junior and as a sophomore.
