Trae - Losing Composure


Finally Guerilla Maab member Trae has dropped his much anticipated solo effort & it was well worth the wait. The Intro is a piano playing wit lil’ snippets from an old Guerilla Maab song, pretty good as far as an intro goes, better then just folks talking.

"Beware" is up next & this track features his cousin Z Ro & Bun B from U.G.K. The beat is cold as fuck, Trae starts it off wit a solid verse, then Bun laces it. Z Ro sings the chorus & also has a pretty dope 4th verse.

4th song is the album title track "Losing Composure" which features westcoast vet Yukmouth( from the Luniz) & Z Ro. Beat is real cold, and he got Z Ro on the hook once again. Trae drops a pretty good opening verse. Ro comes on 2nd & just rips the track, even shoots another shot at 50 Cent. Yukmouth comes on 3rd, starts off kinda slow but then ends up lacing the track luvly, dope verse. Trae & Ro each drop another verse to finish the song off. You’ll be playing this one more then once.

"Stressin Me" Features Billy Cook & is pretty much a remix to a song he did on his cd called Niggaz Be Stressin Me. Billy Cook does his thing for the first 2 verses & he also sings the chorus. Trae drops a cold ass verse on this shyt, and Billy Cook sings his ass off at the end.

Next up is "Life On Da Edge" & if u a fan of Guerilla Maab u know they do a lot of songs like this. Song is all about the struggle & how life can get hard sometimes ya know. It features TC who sounds like he coulda been part of Cash Money, he drops a pretty good verse & the chorus is handled by Shyna.

"Day’s Of My Life" again features Billy Cook on the hook. Its another joint on how they tryin to make it through all the bullshyt they go thru. Guerilla Maab does a lot of these tracks & that’s one of the main reasons people can feel their lyrics.

Next track, "Doin My Thang" is produced by one of the south’s most slept on producers, Russell Lee, he also handles the chorus. Beat is pretty koo, got a guitar playing in the back that makes ya bob ya head to the track. Song is bout maintaining in the game, pretty dope track.

Halfway point of the album & he brings Z Ro back on for a lil’ help on "Aint No Turnin Back" They sampled that “Back In The Day” song for the chorus. Beat has an older westcoast typa feel but is pretty koo. Ro & Trae both hold it down on this joint.

"Still On The Southside" is another Russell Lee joint who also handles the hook. Trae rides on this song mayne, all about holdin it down for the southside. Another dope track.

"Pimpin" is track 12, features Jay’ton, Lil B, & Pimpin Skinny. Trae does the first verse which is pretty good. He also does the hook which is ok but thats the one part I think coulda been improved on this track.

"Oh No" is one of the coldest songs on the cd. The track features upcomin Houston artists Paul Wall & Chamillionaire. Paul Wall starts the song off real nice. Trae’s up next & he comes hard. Chamillionaire is up last & he just rips the track, nice wordplay & punchlines, hottest verse on the song.

"Strugglin" is my personal favorite song on the album, it features the 3rd member of Guerilla Maab, Dougie D & Shyna on the hook. Trae starts off the song nicely wit a verse on his everyday struggles. Dougie D comes on 2nd & Im tellin u he dropped one of the realest verses I’ve heard all year, straight fire. Trae drops one more solid verse to finish off this joint off.

Next song is "Tell You A Story" which is a song about Trae’s life. Talks about how things that happened to him when he was younger & made him who he is today. Kinda like a Look What U Did To Me (Z Ro) sorta track but it’s a good one.

"Wanna See Me Gone" is a song about haters wishin he’d fall off. This song is lettin em know they wastin their time cause he aint goin nowhere. "A Letter" features Shyna on the chorus. This song is real nice man, he got a verse on here for his brother on lock, one for a friend who passed away, and a verse for another partna on lock. He shows a lot of love to folks on here man, shows he keepin their spirit alive.

Last song on the album is an older track, it came out on Guerilla maab- Resurrected. Song features Z Ro & Dougie D, song is koo but like I said its an older track. All & all this is one of the best releases of 2003. If u like real rap & tired of all that fake flossin bullshit then go up this debut solo from Guerilla Maab vet Trae is available everywhere from G-Maab Ent.
