Wrestler Mike Hegstrand, better know to wrestling fans as Road Warrior Hawk passed away last night.

He passed away at 1:30 am Sunday morning. Cause of death, and other details are unavailable at this time.

Hegstrand and Joe Laurinaitis – better know as Animal – became a tag-team in 1983 in the AWA and were managed by Paul Ellering.

The Road Warriors were a ground-breaking tag team at the time as both men were big, and extremely powerful. After going through a brief gimmick as bikers, they finally settled on the post-apocalyptic, face painted duo that fans have known for over twenty years.

The Road Warriors quickly became one of the most decorated tag teams in the history of wrestling, winning Japanese Tag Titles and numerous regional titles.

They were the only team in history to hold all three major North American tag team titles, having held the AWA, NWA and WWF belts over their 20-year career.

Perhaps one of the biggest tribute to the legacy of the Road Warriors was the number of tag teams created in their image – Demolition, Powers of Pain, Master Blasters, etc.
