going to new york, need some help

are any of you guys new york residents? or been to ny?

i think ijm going there for my spring break, end of march around, and i was thinking of staying at a Milford Plaza. its probably the cheapest hotel for its location, really close to times square.  i was wondering if anyone had experiencfe with this hotel, or have had positive experiences with others in the times squares area.. take in mind, that were just college students, not needing anything really nice, just a  decent place to rest at night..
also what are all the sights/attractions in ny that i should check out.
like shopping and shit, and whatever else, statues, 9/11 site and shit
also.. i dunno, might seem like an awkward ?, but is there anyway to hook up somke greenz there as a tourist... i dont reaqlly feel like bringing that shit from cali over an airplane, especially since its en route to NY. but im a fiend for the green, and wondering if anyone knew wassup.
