Richie Rich and Rick James, produced by DJ Quik
« on: December 26, 2003, 07:07:30 AM »
I just came across a hidden gem. There is a song on the 'How To Be A Player' soundtrack featuring Richie Rich and Rick James, produced by DJ Quik. It is a remake (if you will) of "Hard To Get" and its slammin! Rick sings on the chorus and Daniel LeMelle makes a cameo on the sax. Even though its note for note a replay of the original, Quik came with it. I would like to see more collabs like this in the future.

Damn I love that song. I haven't heard it in like a year, thanks for reminding me of it. I'm going to download it right now.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

Hi Adon,

Along with guests Snoop, Bobby Womack, Jojo and Charlie Wilson on the album "Urban Rapsody" you can hear 2 personal friends and work associates, female rapper, Neb Luv from the 5 Footaz and Val 'Lady V' Young singing background on "Somebody's Watching You". Val Young has done work with the label-formerly-known-as-Death Row, with artists Snoop, Pac, and Dre. She has been active with background vocals on many G-Funk artist releases, and did some work on Ricks last LP. I've had the pleasure of working with her, a great person.

I would recomend that release to not only those Funk fans, but those who love that Gangsta shit too. There was a campaign underway requesting the commercial release of Rick James' 1982 Rockpalast concert on VHS and DVD. I need to see whats up with that thinking about it.
