its a great, great movie - a lil weird but great

i got it on dvd a couple of months ago. Chiaki Kuriyama is in, though only a small role its easy to see why Tarantino cast her as GoGo.

I wouldn't be surprised if it weren't. America's got such a wide audience and lots of potential opposition for explicit films. And this film, if something, is explicit. Not only does it have gore, but the idea is soooooo fucking twisted as well.

Like in the Kill Bill trailer all the blood stains were colored black. While I understand the motives for that - a preview anyone might see in the movies musn't be offensive or too violent for anyone, kids included - they don't do that here. Last week I saw a trailer in the theater for a new Finnish war movie. Plenty of blood in the trailer already, not censored at all. They don't show swearing in the trailers here either though. Well, much.

Battle Royale is great though, no doubt. Y'all should check that shit out.

Yeah I heard that, but I can't really see what more they can do with it really, except for prehaps the same concept with a different class of children.

yeah a sequel was released last year in Japan - it was being directed by Kinji Fukasaku, the director of the first, however he died from cancer mid-production and the rest was directed by his son Kenta Fukasaku.

it doesn't sound as good as the first  - and as far as i know only released in the uk and germany thus far but i would assume many of the others will follow.

i found this plot outline:

Three years after the events in "Battle Royale," Shuya Nanahara (Tatsuya Fujiwara, if uve seen the first u know who this is),  is a well-known terrorist bent on bringing down the government. In response, they order the creation of the "Battle Royale 2" program, and send a class of junior-high students to catch and kill him.

sounds like a somewhat intelligent way to take the concept and kinda cool

on further investigation it did show in England at last year's London Film Festival but won't get a proper release in U.K. until July 9th 2004 and went straight to video in Germany last week
