A NEW SOURCE OF BEEF

A few weeks ago, we reported on the upcoming Beef 2 DVD, the second volume of the Peter Spirer & QDIII film series that chronicles hip-hop's greatest battles. Originally, this DVD was set to drop June 29th, but mysteriously, the street date changed to August 31st – over two months past the initial street dateWhy the drastic date change? Well, as it turns out, certain parties featured in the Beef 2 DVD were not happy with content included in advance copies disc that were sent out to press and retail over the last few months. It is, at this point, unclear as to how much of the footage is being cut, but there are two main stories that are being cut and/or censored: The Source Vs. Eminem and The Source Vs. XXL, which spans almost 30 minutes of the DVD. Can you guess who is making the filmmakers cut these sequences from the film?

Good guess. As it turns out, both sequences make The Source look very shameful, detailing the entire history of the magazine, verifying all the legendary ghost stories you've heard about concerning Benzino and Made Men's strong-arm involvement with the magazine. Through interviews with Dave Mays, Benzino, Eminem, Wendy Day, Elliot Wilson (XXL), 50 Cent, Saigon, D12, Selwyn Hinds, and others, are detailed accounts about:

     1) the original Mind Squad leaving the magazine after David Mays snuck a four page article in the magazine on the Almighty R.S.O. (aka Made Men) 2) the mic rating system become "kurupt" with mysteriously changed ratings, including Made Men's 4.5 mic rating 3) the Made Men upset about being overshadowed by P.Diddy on the cover of the magazine causing more staff walk-outs; 4) Benzino naming himself '‘co-founder' of the magazine fifteen years after it's conception, and much more.

At this point, it is almost irrelevant, considering that The Source's shady dealings have been written about, rapped about, and spread through word of mouth so much over the past few years that it is almost mainstream knowledge. However, this DVD would be the first time an expose on the magazine was presented in a video format – which of course would be the "nail in the coffin" so to speak, as it would easily be passed from hand to hand, even reaching the audience that doesn't read (at least anything outside of The Source Magazine).

An inside source told us that Image, the company that is distributing the new, censored Beef 2 DVD, pulled the Source related content because the company also had business deals on the table with The Source Magazine for their Hip-Hop Hits 8 compilation CD (which of course includes a new Benzino song), among other future projects. The contact also went on to say that "things got really hot" and "nobody is ready to die for that shit", in regards to being pressured to making the last minute changes. Instead, Beef 2 will now include a detailed account of the EPMD  break-up.

Unfortunately, while Image went as far as even doing a recall of the advance uncut DVD's sent out to press (making them an incredibly hot Ebay item), the damage has already been done, as bootlegs of the uncut DVD are being sold in the streets and spread rapidly via downloads across the internet. While the simple remedy here would be for producers Spirer and QDIII to stand their ground and include the segment Beef 2 (or even Beef 3), this newfound, accidental controversy leaves the market wide-open for a full-length DVD expose on The Source.... This only proves The Source is hiding things from their "fans". If they were so confident about what they do, they wouldn't feel any shame about what they have done in the past (or are still doing).

the source is a fucking joke, and a laughing stock within the rap/hip hop community. the funny thing is, did they think that by giving that made men album 4 1/2 mics people would actually go out and buy it...people saw through that shit and realised that the album was fucking horrible...
