Rapper Young Buck brings Christmas to underprivileged kids

One of Nashville's newest recording artists is making news again. Rapper Young Buck is giving a truck-load of toys away to underprivileged children.

Buck made headlines with his chart topping album "Straight out of Cashville" back in August. Then he was accused of stabbing someone in a melee at the taping of a national music award show.

For the first time since the charges against him surfaced, Young Buck talked exclusively to Channel Four's Darian Trotter.

It was at the Toys ‘R Us in Antioch that we followed Young Buck as he nearly cleared out the store. He says he could have just donated cash to charity, but he'd rather enjoy the gift of giving first hand.

Price was no object for Nashville-born rapper Young Buck.

We talked to him exclusively as he went aisle to aisle at Toys ‘R Us, picking out thousands of dollars in toys for underprivileged kids he'll personally hand out in his hometown.

While loading the first round of toys into a U-haul, we asked him what it was like playing Santa.

"I was telling the man upstairs thanks for allowing me to have the opportunity to be able to do it... I was on a wish list," Young Buck said.

Buck and his crew had so many baskets of toys, the cash register shut down several times. It caused a commotion for other holiday shoppers looking on.

"When I saw him going through the store with basket, basket, basket and basket of stuff… I thought these guys must have a lot of money and they're just really buying this for apparently their kids,” holiday shopper Terri Dougan said.

We revealed the bundles of toys bagged up are for children Young Buck doesn't even know.

"Well I think that's just great that's what Christmas is all about…"

"With or without drama this situation was going to happen."

Young Buck spoke candidly about the melee at the Vibe Music Awards six weeks ago. The Nashville rapper made national headlines when he was named as a suspect in a stabbing.

"When that situation happened I wasn't aware why my name came up,” Young Buck said.

Santa Monica Police told Channel 4 in a phone interview that Buck was caught on video with an object that looked like a knife during the confrontation that sent a man to the hospital with a punctured lung.

A warrant was issued for Buck's arrest.

He turned himself in and is out on bond. He's lawyers have advised him not to speak about the charges, but we did get one thing out of him.

"And that one thing is I am innocent. Believe half of what you see on t.v. and all of what your hearing from me right now, and that's I am innocent," Young Buck said.

"Well I didn't know who it was and I thought maybe it's not him."

Shoppers at Toys ‘R Us in Antioch, focused less on the negative press, and more on what buck is calling a "G-unit Christmas" for the kids.

Giving away thousands of dollars in toys and clothes, even more than 100 pairs of shoes.

"This is a point in my life where financially I've never been as well off so I felt like why not give back a little bit to my community where I come from as well as every community around that needs it," Young Buck said. "Just being able to give back is a good feeling for me."

"Cashville, we up outta here," he concluded leaving the store.

The toy give away will take place at the Athlete’s Foot on Jefferson Street, Friday, Christmas Eve, starting at Noon until every gift is gone.

Young Buck's arraignment for assault with a deadly weapon was postponed until January 14.

I don't think its to make him look good for the trial... if you pay attention to his music and past interviews before he was charged, he seems like the kind of rapper that would be very philanthropic, given his views on society, his own upbringing, and religous background and shit like that.

i think the only reason why its made past local news is 'cause he's on trial.
