Bellamy's 1st hat-trick
« on: March 19, 2005, 04:38:44 PM »
Craig Bellamy scored his 1st hat-trick for Dubcc's favourite non-dutch team: Celtic

AS the Champions go back where they belong...top of the league

A superb hat-trick from Craig Bellamy defeated Dundee United and lifted Celtic back to the top of the Scottish Premier League above Rangers.
The Wales striker fired powerfully into the far corner of the net from the edge of the box to give Celtic the lead.

Jim McIntyre equalised with a shot on the turn, but Bellamy struck from 22 yards to restore the lead.

Barry Robson equalised with a similarly spectacular strike, but Bellamy pounced again to drive in Celtic's third.

Robson had been recalled to the United line-up along with Mark Kerr for the first game under interim manager Gordon Chisholm, with Derek McInnes and James Grady dropping out of the midfield.

And the SPL's bottom side looked fired up to impress their new boss as they pushed forward early on.

But they quickly fell behind when Jackie McNamara powered through the centre of midfield and set up Bellamy, who was given time and room to thump his drive into the far roof of the net from the edge of the box.

Celtic's defence was back to a more familiar line-up, Stanislav Varga recovering from illness to replace Stephane Henchoz.

But United were creating openings, with Stevie Crawford and Stuart Duff squandering chances, while Bellamy found the side netting at the other end.

Bobo Balde sent a strong header straight at Tony Bullock before the United goalkeeper helped United draw level.

His punt flew all the way to the Celtic penalty area, where Varga allowed McIntyre enough room to fire a first-time shot on the turn past Douglas.

Celtic quickly restored the lead when Ulrik Laursen found Bellamy making a superb run to shake off Paul Ritchie and lofted his drive over Bullock and into the net off the far post.

A fine, one-handed save from Bullock prevented a Varga header extending the lead.

United came close to equalising again immediately after the break, Douglas saving well after a deflection off Neil Lennon and then from a header by McIntyre.

The home side eventually made the breakthrough when Robson fired home from 20 yards.

But Bellamy had the last word, running on to a flick from Chris Sutton, who had returned from injury to win a place on the bench, to drive the winner home from just inside the box.

Celtic survived the closing minutes with 10 men after Sutton had to be withdrawn injured, Douglas producing a superb save to deny Robson.

Scoring a hat trick in the Scottish league is hardly big news man.

SPL is a below par league. Look at Barry Ferguson, complete shit in the Premiership playing quality opponents week in week out but Rangers rate him highly for his performance against sides such as Dundee Utd and Kilmarnock ?

Bellamy is the same, the little shit cunt. Couldn't score for to save his life in the Premiership, now he's banging them in. Did he turn into a good player overnight? Nah he's playing against defenders who are on par with those from the Conference.

The scottish league is a joke, how you get two Champions League places is beyond me, because it guarantees both Rangers & Celtic to qualify. The prime example is Chris Sutton, 2 goals in a season for Chelsea, moves to Scotland and scores like 25+. Was that because Martin O'Neill turned him into a great player, no, it was because he was playing against crap sides every week.

And to Wilz, how many of those players u mentioned didn't come from Rangers, Celtic or Aberdeen?

nobody's arguing that the SPL is better than the Premiership  no-one is that biased or stupid

2nd point: Barry Ferguson IS shite, he is a premiership failure/reject  whatever u want to call him

but sutton did get transformed, all u have to do is look at who he has scored against in european leagues to see that

barcelona and juventus spring to mind

and he aint even a really centre forward or talisman  he has been a utility player for us

anyone who says sutton isn't or hasn't been a revolution for us both domestically and on the european scene shouldn't be discussing football at all!!

also bearing in mind he was 1/2 of the greatest ever premiership pairing of all time

^ u are so stupid. What would it matter if they came from Rangers Celtic or Aberdeen? they all played in scotland. and what percentage of ur great players came from Man Utd Arsenal or Liverpool? u have 50 million to chose from, we have 5. so i don't understand why u would say Rangers, celtic or Aberdeen. And we deserve two places because not only have Celtic consistently beaten there English opposition they have been doing well on the european scene and it is because of there hard wrok that we were rewarded with another place. I really don't think u should be discussing  this football issue Rastaman as u abviously don't have a wide enough knowledge of this particular topic.

And i that was a good point from mac 10.

celtic have beaten blackburn, man utd (at least twice), tottenham, leeds, liverpool, norwich and drew with arsenal over the last 3/4 years, so u tell me who isn't a good team, who wouldn't compete in the premiership and who doesn't deserve a champions league place season after season

not forgetting the fact that no british club has come close to what we achieved in europe recently
