Eminem Show...Dres Production is Boo Boo
« on: June 08, 2002, 08:34:07 AM »
Yo, I just wanted too say that the beats on "The Eminem Show" were below Dr Dre standerds...

1.Business...Good beat...A typical Dre beat...

2.Say What You Say...This has got too be the worst Dre beat Ive ever heard. I mean WTF it sounds like some No Limit Down south beat or some shit...The pause is annoying, and its very simplistic...

3.My dads Gone Crazy...All the Insturments are tight, and this coulda been a REALLY dope Dre beat, but where the fuck are the drums?? It sounds like theres no drums on this song, like Eminem is rapping acapella or some shit...Those are the weakest drums Ive ever heard by Dre...I dunno, maybe they put the unfinished version on the album by mistake or something, but when eminem started rapping, I was waiting for the drums too come on after the first couple of bars, but it just stayed the same...

So overall I didnt feel Dres production too much on this album...If Dre produced 3 beats all as good as "Business", than this album woulda been above classic...Maybe Dres "Unique" beats will grow on me later on though...

Totally agree with you man. Business was good - clever use of the Batman riff - but Say What You Say and Dad's Gone Crazy were, without putting too fine a point on it, probably the wakest beats on the whole album.

I remember thinking the same thing when Snoop's Last Meal dropped - I never felt Dre's beats there either. Sometimes I think maybe he keeps all his best shit for himself - that would be completely understandable and he's got every right to, but it just dilutes his legacy when he puts out that lesser stuff. I want to hear the attitude of Chronic 2001 or the tracks he did on No Limit Top Dogg, and My Dad's Gone Crazy just ain't doin' that for me...

The beat for "Business" is a 5/5.  "Say What You Say" is weak and "My Dad'd Gones Crazy" could have been better if Dre used his signature drums kicks.

STILL...the album is a classic.

And Lord Funk...I thought Dre's work on "Topp Dogg" was weak too, then after a while "B Please' became a classic, "Just Dippin" got tighter and "Buck Em" grew on me.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. Maybe that's the thing with Dre trying to stay ahead of the game - it takes time for everyone else to catch up. I don't know - perhaps in a few months time we'll all be talking about some new sound that grew out of the Dad's Gone Crazy beat ( ;)), but I really do think that Dre's tracks are starting to lose some of the immediacy that I used to feel they had. I compare the situation to Quik - for some reason, even when he comes out with something completely off-centre, it still sounds tight from the jump; you get the impression he's constantly evolving. Dre just seems to have taken a step backwards with something like Say What You Say... But hey, on the whole, it's still a great album - just never thought the day would arrive when I thought Em outshone his mentor on the production stakes!!

Maybe Dre is running out of gas with his "2001" brand of beats.  I mean, he is working on "Detoc" creating a new sound to replace this one.  Maybe he is getting ready to dump this sound and go next level; once again.

i thought eminem did say what you say?

but anyway business is bangin, and my dads gone crazy is pretty good, those are 2 of my favs actaully

but say what you say....here is my opinion
-they knew it was gonna be for a diss song, and dre prolly had a sound in his head of how he wanted the beat to be like for the diss, then when it came out it sounded like this, and either dre liked it, or eminem liked it , so they decided to go with it...

Y'know, I don't think it's even just Dre's beat that makes Dad's Gone Crazy so poor. Em wouldn't like this, but... the problem is Hailie Jade! That annoying voice, the annoying chorus, the whole self-indulgent idea. I've come to the conclusion that you could have put the vocal track over the What's The Difference beat and I would have had a problem with it!

Hey don't get me wrong - Dre's beat is still the song's biggest stumbling block  ;)

I think Dre is just giving Em his leftover beats...Same thing with Snoop...None of the beats compare to the shit on 2001...Most of the time Dre's leftover shit is better than other producer's best beats, maybe not so this time...
