The White Stripes aren't trying to be better than all of those songs. They're just making music.

As a side note, I think they're better than all of those songs.

to me blvd of broken dreams is amazing. and i see your point trauma , and i like them a lot, but with those songs, thats my opinion, and not fully thought out, and i dont expect anyone to agree with me, plus, i really got into 7 nation army, several weeks ago, so it hasnt had the longivity for me to give it that greatness

Blvd of Broken Dreams is o.k., I think it's well written and the music, instrument, sound side of it is great, but the message loses me. I think Greenday stepped back a step when they decided to take themselves so seriously, and I'm not really one to be interested in what a punk rockstar has to say about politics. He's entitled to his opinion, but man I've got mine too and don't really care what his is, one way or the other. I think musical ability is a god-given (literally) talent, and politics is a man-made force of evil... to mix the two is blasphemy. That's not to say people can't do serious important songs, but political songs turn me off, whether they agree or disagree with my political beliefs, either way.
