dre only own's 20% of aftermath?

THE SWEETEST THING U2 took the top spot largely based on revenues from the Elevation tour

Bono spent much of the last month traveling the world, urging the U.S. to spend more on aid to Africa, and campaigning for third-world debt relief. Meanwhile, his band's extensive traveling has ensured that it's in no need of debt relief. According to a list compiled by Rolling Stone magazine, U2 was the best-paid music act of 2001, earning $61.9 million, largely on receipts from its worldwide Elevation tour.

The magazine, which estimated what the artists netted based on conversations with industry insiders, said that Dr. Dre was the No. 2 earner. The Eminem mentor earned $51.9 million, $35 million of it from Interscope increasing its stake in his Aftermath label from 50 percent to 80 percent, the magazine said.

Third on the list were the Beatles, who, more than three decades after their breakup, netted $47.9 million from worldwide sales of their singles compilation ''1.'' Dave Matthews Band was fourth, taking in $43.4 million, mostly from concert receipts. At No. 5 was Madonna, whose $40.8 million take came from her Drowned World tour and a contract renewal with Warner Music, which the magazine said paid her an advance of $20 to 30 million.

The rest of the top 10: rapper/mogul Master P. (No. 6, $36 million); guitarist Carlos Santana (No. 7, $32.7 million); 'N Sync (No. 8, $26.5 million); Aerosmith (No. 9, $24.2 million); and Sting (No. 10, $24 million).

It's just like how Russel Simmons doesn't own all of Def Jam.  Island owns about 80% of it, and the rest is owned by Russel and his partners.  Basically, they're paying Simmons to help run Def Jam.  The same situation applies for Dr. Dre too I guess.  You'll probably see alot of this in the music industry.  No one owns their own shit, unless your Suge Knight, where you happen to own the world.

Yo, sometimes the road to the truth is, so elusive it's confusin
And reality becomes illusion
If I showed the masses where we was at or where we was goin
I'd shatter the social balance of the world as we know it
I'm talkin bout the grand deception, of 1947
When our souls were sold to the heavens
for technologically advanced weapons
Crystal enhanced, brain implants, and mind control methods
MJ-12 is not majestic

JOKE!  Cause you know how Suge goes around saying he owns all of his masters, even when the question wasn't about him owning his masters?  A JOKE!

Interscope buying more of Aftermath is only a good thang, Cuase they want to make their money back and will push harder for Aftermath to release more shit than they were when they only owned half of Aftermeth, Which means us the fans get more good shit to bump.

Dre's last interview, when asked about royalties/money - "I'm still haven't spent my nwa money"

I'm pretty sure he still gets money off ruthless/deathrow stuff, as well as his aftermath stuff.  Snoop does too, but prob. not as well paid as Dre.  Daz does too.  All 3 of them have talked about it, how they all get paid off the deathrow stuff, but that stuff don't really sell anymore.  Even the reissues didn't sell good.  Gotta wonder though, how quick Tomika and Suge are to cut checks addressed to Andre Young.

Can someone confirm this:

Dre's original Deal ended w/Em's last album.  At that point, Aftermath was free to deal w/any major.  Dre probably re-upped w/Interscope and retained full ownership and sold 30% to Interscope.

Just my thoughts.... I doubt he sold 80% of his company....Unless he's looking to other ventures !!!!
