from NZ... tooheys, tooheys new and dry is popular, tooheys old is alright too...

if you want to drink a real australian brew, then go for victoria bitter, or emu export... fosters is a nice lager, same brew as crown lager, but its not true blue aussie without the bitter, because the best cold beer is vic, vic bitter.

lol @ Fosters.

Fosters = the "Australian" beer that no one inside of Australia drinks. I dunno how it got so popular overseas, it's really a bad representative of what is actually popular in Australia. To be honest you have to ask for it over the counter, because it's rarely displayed out front. Was popular in the 70's and 80's though, along with KB.

Anyway best Aussie beers imo* =
Carlton Draught (VIC)
Carlton Cold (VIC)
XXXX Larger - Despite being mid-strength (QLD)
West End Draught (SA)
Toohey's New (NSW)
Crown Larger (VIC)
Coopers Pale Ale or Sparkling (SA) (a local family brew that's only just starting to get popular overseas)
Swan Draught (WA)

Aussie Beers to aviod (not including light beer, but that goes without saying) imo* =
Toohey's Extra Dry (NSW) - too watery, it's a beer for those people that don't like strong tasting beer
Victoria Bitter (VIC) - I can only have a few of these before an horrible after-taste gets to ya
Redback Wheat Beer (WA) - Probably the worst Aussie beer i've ever had, don't even bother with it.
