Here's the types of music I listen to:

1.  Hip-Hop:  Mainly West coast with some East & Eminem

2.  Soul/R&B:  Singers like Bilal, Maxewell, Alicia Keys, TQ, Mary J & Truth Hurts

3.  Classic Rock:  Almost any classic rock songs aside from The Beatles

There is other shit, but no enough for a category.

I don't only listen rap.
When it comes to rap I only listen to West pretty much (except for a few artists like Devin)

I listen to rock/grunge which basically includes Hendrix, Zeppelin, Metallica, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, AC/DC, The Living End, Grinspoon, Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I listen to hip hop because it is so versitile.  It can bring in elemnets of every other genre of music.  But, I do listen to pretty much everything.  I'm heavy into soul music, i'm diggin this whole philly neo-soul shit too.  I like rock music, classical, everything.  I try to listen to some music from around the world too.  I got some crazy african cd's with a nutty drummer.  It's dope shit. lol.  I even listen to the music during a tv show, and just zone out and ignore the show lol.  I'm a fan of sound.

yo if you like all classic rock you will like the beatles later stufff, their early stuff is boy bandish as hell but everything from "I Feel Fine"/"She's A Woman" from 1964 on is genius,Lennon-Mcartney are still up there with any composer lyricist ever,at some point in their life, anyone who speaks english has had a beatles song stuck in their head, you like doors right? I believe they fit in classic rock. I'm not trying to force anything on you but i'm just suggesting based on you saying you like classic rock. That's cool either way man.

Rain: DIG Nirvana and Jimi Hendrix!!!! I like that shit alot.

yeah i listen to mainly The Doors,The Jimi Hendrix Experience,The Beatles, and Nirvana and i don't listen to rap much anymore but i'm always having to defend it against punkers because i do have a deep respect for rap still and i rap alot more than anything in my writing. also I like alot of blues,John Lee Hooker,Muddy Waters,Willie Dixon,The doors and hendrix also do a lot of blues.

anyways i respect few rappers these days....Nas,Outkast,Crooked I,Ras Kass,Eminem,Royce Da 5'9,Rakim,2pac,Biggie

i can't think of many else really that uses rap.

When i say uses i mean excercises raps potential. As a genre Rap easily holds the most potential by far compared to any other category but rap uses so little of this.Nas and Outkast and supposedly Dre(with detox) and Eminem are the only people really going beyond the played out gangsta and commercial themes. Rap is so potent because it's verses hold more lyrics than any other kind of music and it can say so much and get very deep and poetic but now insecure minorities (due to their lower place in society) have to secure themselves by assuring legions of juveniles their dicks are big and they can pull bitches while driving big cars using bug guns and rhyming small words. Sometimes i wish rap was invented by white people. Oh yeah it's called poetry! Don't get me wrong i'm only syaing in reference to most rap on the radio(Ja Rule,Nelly,Cash Money,No Limit,So So Def etc.) and the sorry mofos still doing gangsta rap. Kurupt used ot be my favorite but i've been sorely disillusioned and introduced to his ignorance, inconsistency and stagnant tendencies. Only person worth their salt in Gangsta rap is Crooked I and even his content is worn out,but i am in awe of raps potency(and at how little it's been exploited) and the few good artists of today and the many great rappers of years past. peace-Tanjint

Rap was the realest when the message was new,at this point we have heard EVERY ghetto scenario possible. There is more to real life then Ghettos.and now half the rappers don't know what they're talking about when they claim that shit, they just readin out of n.w.a and the pioneers classics....and in reference to your nas quote....someone who believes in kings and kingdoms rather than a slightly more equal governmental system probably should be a slave.and as of late he's been a damn slave to record company execs I can picture him getting his fat check from a fatter chekc holding white guy "Here Naazzz buy yourself a bouncy car or somethin..".and i LIKE Nas...peace-Tanjint
