what is corny about rappers as actors is that they are already acting like gangsters on record and almost every role that rappers choose they gotta be a crazy gangster just to fit thier fuckin rap image.  Play a regular role like a husband or father or a lowlife.  That's corny that it's always gotta be a criminal.  The only good rapper/actor was PAC

You dont consider will Smith to be a rapper then?or a good one.

Pac wasn't that good... he was alright in some of his movies... but he was horrible in Above The Rim!

Ice Cube is better... Ice T CAN be better (but it seems like he only choses crappy roles)... Will Smith is most definately better...

He bust a gun out the back of a van in Friday.

Yeah, firing a MAC-10 sideways - like he's actually gonna hit shit doing that.

It is annoying to me when rappers only play gangstas in movies, like that's the only thing they can possibly do.  At least with Pac, Ice-T, Ice Cube, and Mos Def, you see them trying a wide variety of roles (though they have played gangstas in movies before).  Most rappers, though - they can't act for shit, so they compensate by getting themselves cast in roles that are consistent with their musical image.

You make a good point, but you have to remember their primary focus and "living" is from their music business.  If Game goes off and does a movie where he is playing Mr. Mom (like that flick with Cube, or Vin Diesel), he will destroy the credibility of his rap image.  It doesn't matter that its a movie, it will destroy his image, and product.  So if he doesn't get consistant acting gigs where he can get paid doing it, he will have shot himself in the foot, by killing off his music career.  Rap fans are not forgiving, as they see any image you carry within the media, a reflection of your music image, as a reflection of your real life.

Which is one of the reasons I often find myself at odds with the way the industry works.  Rappers are supposed to be musicians/entertainers, not criminals.  The fact that people takes images so seriously is really stupid to me.  Then again, Ice-T's credibility didn't seem to suffer much when he took on all those roles playing cops (such as in "New Jack City"), and Ice Cube's credibility hasn't suffered for playing a college student in "Higher Learning" or the role in "Are We There Yet?"

Actually Ice T's final album release was Original Gangsta.  This was in 1991, the same year that he did New Jack City, and started his acting gig.  He did not release any albums after that point.  Ice Cube's last release was with the WSC project, and you saw what happened to that.  It flopped because of his clashing with Mack 10, mainly due to his refusal of promoting for the project as well.  You cant go on a record and scream youre slangin dope and killin dudes, and then play a gig where u are changing diapers, and teaching your 13 year old daughter that there is a true love out there for her.  Its super corny, and rap fans dont accept it.  I know what youre getting at by saying this is entertainment, but the rap industry is just different from all other forms of music.  Rappers are supposed to be entertainers and not criminals, but the majority of rappers out there got there start on the wrong side of the streets.
