Mike Love Sues Brian Wilson over the SMiLE album (unbelievable)
« on: November 03, 2005, 05:18:12 PM »
Well, fuck-head Mike Love (lead singer of the Beach Boys) just sued Brian Wilson today, for reworking and releasing his "SMiLE" album to critical acclaim last year.  He's claiming that Brian slandered him in some interviews and shit, and hurt the image of the Beach Boys, and so now he wants millions and millions.

Mike & Brian haven't gotten along for years, and Mike's sued Brian, twice.  This makes three.  What the fuck, man, just leave the guy the hell alone, he's your cousin, for one... for two, he's crazy, for three, he's finally getting a little respect and you've got to sue his ass?

For Brian's part, what it amounts to is, Brian did tons of interviews in the past year.  He was often asked about Mike (since Mike's famously sued him and they don't talk) and about his new band, etc.  Brian's made several comments in several interviews that I guess Mike didn't like.  Brian said in one that he didn't miss Mike, because he got tired of hearing his nasal singing voice.  He said frequently that his new band could blow the Beach Boys away, their voices were better and they sound like angels.  He said things like basically that he didn't want to be in the Beach Boys anymore, etc.

Mike has the license to use the Beach Boys name, because Brian lets him license it, and tour under it (Brian doesn't tour under the Beach Boys name at all, just his own).  So basically, when Mike goes on tour as the Beach Boys, he pays Brian (and Al, and Carl's wife) a fee to use the name.  He also pays Brian royalties because he wrote the songs.  When Brian tours, he doesn't have to pay any license fees, and most of the royalties he pays to himself.

Al was currently suing Brian, but gave an interview a month ago saying that he thought it was sad that everything was about lawsuits again, and that Mike was about to attack Brian again.  So believe it or not, Al (who hasn't talked to ANY of them in years) dropped his lawsuit last week!  So now Al isn't suing anybody, but apparently doesn't like Mike... but appeared earlier this year at an event with Brian.  Mike doesn't like Al, OR Brian, and Brian basically doesn't talk to any of them.  Carl's dead, Dennis is dead.  Fucked up situation.

Mike supposedly (according to an interview with Brian) saw Brian somewhere in person a few months ago, and asked Brian if he wanted to work with them (his Beach Boys band), to which Brian claims he said he didn't want to do that.  So apparently Mike felt miffed and decided to sue Brian for some bullshit.  Al heard through the grapevine that Mike was going to sue Brian, and dropped his lawsuit against BRI records (which is Brian, Mike, Al, and Carl's estate) out of respect for Brian.

Brian Wilson said his new band could blow the Beach Boys, as they were in the 60's, away.  He's probably right.  He says he prefers their vocal blend and musicianship to the Beach Boys voices and playing ability.

Mike's current band isn't very good, in my opinion.... they're actually still called "The Beach Boys" although they're all new guys.

without the Wilsons, there is no Beach Boys
Always talkin bout the cash he got, the little pesos for shows
And God knows his materialistic raps and wack flows
are like Stay Free pads, fake V.I.P. rappers get garbage disposed
Unrecouped for his flamboyance and reflection
He's leasin rentin and frontin
