Kwame return will improve our defense inside, no way Randolph would have a such game with Kwame defend on him...

Wassup with Mihm?
without a doubt but I still consider Mihm will receive "shitty fouls" so he can't have the same impact as Kwame intensity and time wise  8)

Mihm Getting Restless

12:56 AM PST on Thursday, November 9, 2006

The Press-Enterprise

PORTLAND, ORE. - A lot is weighing on Chris Mihm's mind.

He is in the final year of his contract, still recovering from right ankle surgery that sidelined him for the exhibition season and the first six games of this season.

Mihm, who was injured March 12 against Seattle and had surgery in July, became so concerned about his slow recovery that he flew to Baltimore on Wednesday to see a specialist today.

"This is a contract year, and we want him to have a great year," Coach Phil Jackson said. "This obviously is something he didn't ... foresee ... to have an operation in July and to be sitting here in October and November and sitting behind the 8-ball."

Jackson said Mihm has tendinitis and swelling in the ankle and that Mihm had a setback after a recent therapy session.

"We're trying to make progress, and it just seems like it's one step forward and two steps backwards right now," Jackson said. "He's concerned. We want him to get comfortable and have confidence to have advancement. But it has been very disheartening for him."

Brown Won't Bump Bynum

The Lakers hope Kwame Brown will play Friday night against Detroit at Staples Center, but he wouldn't be the starting center.

Andrew Bynum has been impressive as the starting center, and Jackson said that won't immediately change when Brown returns from the bruised rotator cuff that has sidelined him since the exhibition season.

"Someone is going to have to beat him (Bynum) out of that spot," Jackson said. "You just don't give it away if a player plays well ... He'll stay out there."

Jackson said Brown had a hard run in practice Monday but fatigued quickly. Brown is expected to practice today, and if all goes well, he will play Friday.

"If Kwame can give us a backup right now, that's what we're looking for most of all," Jackson said.

What, Me Worry?

Upon hearing that former Knicks coach Larry Brown got an $18.5 million settlement from them, Jackson said Brown made out fine and probably will have a chance to coach again.

When told that Spurs coach Gregg Popovich expressed concern about another coach not getting all his money after being fired -- Brown had $41 million left on his deal -- Jackson said he didn't want to express an opinion on the matter.

Jackson was asked if he were worried about a bad precedent for coaches being set.

"If that was a concern to people, Popovich probably should have weighed in on (Clippers owner Donald) Sterling about two or three coaches ago when he was breaking all their contracts years ago," Jackson said. "That was the time he should have been backing up coaches, not about a $40 million situation that ends up with $18 million. It's about guys who were owed $500,000 or $600,000. They needed that kind of money...

"It was something that got us angry as a coaches' association," Jackson added, "but (Clippers coach) Mike Dunleavy has changed all that and he's got him to fork over some money."

Brown set to return but not as a starter

By Mike Bresnahan, Times Staff Writer
November 9, 2006

PORTLAND, ORE. — Kwame Brown was the starting center when last season ended and was supposed to be there again this season.

In between, he sustained a bruised rotator cuff and bursitis in his right shoulder and might have lost his job to Andrew Bynum.

Brown was expected to play for the first time this season Friday against Detroit, assuming he looks good in today's practice, Coach Phil Jackson said.

Brown, in the second year of a three-year contract, averaged 13.6 points and 9.2 rebounds in the team's final 13 regular-season games last season, then 12.9 points and 6.6 rebounds in the playoffs.

But Bynum has alleviated some concerns about turning over the starting center's job to a 19-year-old. He did not, however, play well Wednesday against Portland, finishing a foul-plagued game with two points and five rebounds in nearly 21 minutes.

"More than likely, we'll stay with the same lineup and work Kwame into the lineup as he goes along," Jackson said. "Kwame could give us a backup right now and that's what we're looking for most of all."

Jackson said Brown and Bynum might play at the same time in some situations.

----

The New York Knicks reportedly agreed to pay Larry Brown $18.5 million of the $41 million left on his contract when he was fired in June, an arrangement that led to a Clippers reference when Jackson was asked about it.

Jackson said he didn't think Brown's situation was as much of an issue as San Antonio Coach Gregg Popovich, who hoped the less-than-50% settlement would not set a precedent for fired coaches.

Jackson thought Popovich should have been more concerned when Clippers owner Donald T. Sterling sued Bill Fitch in 2001 for breach of contract. Sterling alleged that Fitch had a duty to find another employer after the Clippers fired him in 1998 with two years left on his contract. Fitch was 67 at the time.

"If [Brown's settlement] was a concern to people, Popovich probably should have weighed in on Sterling about two or three coaches ago when he was breaking all their contracts," Jackson said. "That was the time he should have been backing up coaches, not about a $40-million situation that ends up with $18 million. It's about guys that were owed $500,000 or $600,000 who needed that kind of money.

"Those were concerns to our coaches association, where an owner was exacerbating a situation. It was something that got us angry as a coaches association, but Mike Dunleavy has changed all that and he's got him to fork over some money."

Dunleavy, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is in the process of negotiating an extension with the Clippers.

Clippers spokesman Joe Safety, when reached for comment, said he would "elect not to react to Phil's unfounded rantings."

------

Center Chris Mihm flew to Baltimore on Wednesday to consult with a specialist after continued swelling and pain in his right ankle.

Mihm has not played this season and missed 24 of 25 games at the end of last season after sustaining a severe sprain. He had surgery in July.

"One step forward, two steps backward," Jackson said. "He's concerned and we want him to get comfortable … it's been very disheartening for him."

Mihm had a nighttime flare-up after a recent workout and could not exercise the next day, Jackson said.

It's obvious Phil has been experimenting with some line-ups the last couple of games especially last night...only a stupid coach would leave his 2nd unit for the first 6 minutes of the 4th quarter when they are not even doing shit....The Lakers were stuck at 69 points for a long ass time and Phil still kept the 2nd unit out there...

The Lakers could of won this game if...1) they don't make stupid turnovers    ..2) If they would of put the t'wolves away in the 3rd quarter and have the starters rest in the 4th quarter

Lamar needs to step his game up..im not going to rip him yet but if keeps this up imma have no choice  ;D ....

And Luke is having a great season so far 8)

Horrible game...We definitely need Kwame and even Mihm back for interior defense. Lamar is in a slump and Kobe is being way too passive on offense, trying to get others involed a little too much. Hopefully, we get back on track soon...PeACe

^^^^^ Mihm is out for the season ,  :'( BAD NEWS

Lakers center Chris Mihm will undergo surgery Monday to repair a ligament and tendon in his right ankle, a procedure that will likely keep him sidelined for most of the season, the team said Friday night.

Mihm injured his ankle in a game against Seattle on March 12 and played just once the rest of last season. He had ankle surgery July 26 and missed training camp and all eight preseason games

The latest surgery will be done in Baltimore. His projected recovery time is five to eight months.

"Although I knew a few months ago that there was a chance I'd need such a surgery, it was my hope that through alternative methods and therapy, I'd be able to join my Lakers teammates and make it through the season," Mihm said in a statement. "Unfortunately, despite an intense and grueling therapy regimen, my ankle simply has not responded the way I had hoped."

Lakers coach Phil Jackson had no comment on Mihm's status when asked before the game. He deferred to team spokesman John Black, who announced the latest setback in a news release.

"Naturally I'm disappointed, but I'm optimistic that in the long run this surgery will lead to a 100 percent recovery and I look forward to resuming my NBA career full-bore," Mihm said.

Damn. Well it looks like Bynum and Kwame can make up in Mihm's absence.
