PHOENIX - It was the best season of his four-year career, one that Luke Walton hopes he will be able to cash in on, whether it's with the Lakers or another team.

Walton averaged a career-high 11.4 points per game during the regular season, and he shot career highs from the field (47.4 percent) and three-point range (38.7).

Walton is in the final year of a deal that pays him $1.25 million, and he will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

He hopes the Lakers, or any team that will be interested in his services, will see what he did during the regular season and use that as more of a gauge than the postseason.

"You hope they look at the whole season," Walton said. "But it's the NBA and it's crazy. I've seen people not do anything all season and then have a great playoff run and then get paid a ton of money. So, obviously, I know people are going to be looking at the playoffs.

"But, honestly, I try not to think about it. If I do, that's just going to add more complications to this thing."

Walton is focusing all his attention on trying to help the Lakers defeat the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

He likes what the Lakers are doing and would like to return with a long-term deal.

"In a perfect world, I'd like to stay in LA," Walton said. "But the world isn't perfect."
