Tentative plans in motion for Sun
November 23rd, 2008, 5:59 pm · posted by ART THOMPSON III, OCREGISTER.COM

LOS ANGELES - Lakers coach Phil Jackson said Sunday that he indeed has talked with rookie guard Sun Yue about the likelihood of Sun playing for the Lakers’ D-League affiliate Los Angeles D-Fenders.

“We haven’t talked about a specific timetable, though. We’re still figuring out what we’re going to do with games and practices,” Jackson said.

It is very clear that Sun does not want to go down to the D-League, deeming it a demotion. But the Lakers’ coaching staff believes that the best thing for him is to get some actual game experience, something that he would get with the Lakers now, unless some extreme circumstances were to occur.

Sun’s routine consists of participating in every practice. On game nights he goes out early for shooting drills, under the direction of assistant coaches Jim Clemons and Craig Hodges. Afterward, he retreats to the locker room to get dressed in his street clothes.

“Nothing yet,” Sun said, when asked before Sunday’s game if there had been any decision made on what the immediate plans are for him. “But what can I do, except practice hard? I came here to play in the NBA.”

Asked if he thought a stint in the D-League might be beneficial, Sun said, “I really don’t want to talk about something that hasn’t happened, yet.”

Since he isn't even on the playing roster, I don't see why this wasn't done at the beginning of the season.

^LOL...Sun probably signed with us thinking he was gunna get decent minutes in the regular season. It's clear that he's not ready to compete at the level were playing at. Send his ass to the D-League!

How do you know that? He's never even been given the chance.

He has the tools to be a very nice guard in this league, no doubt, but I saw him in pre-season...his game will take some adjusting before it can translate to the NBA style of play. Either that, or he plays very nervous...he looked much better with the Chinese national team than he did in the pre-season.

Remember, this is the guy I was hyping as our future point guard when we first drafted him...I think he can make it. I just think it'll take some time...PeACe

Lakers center Andrew Bynum sustained a right foot injury Tuesday against New Jersey and is listed as day to day.

An MRI exam and a CT scan revealed that a small bone spur had chipped off the foot, causing pain and inflammation.

The Lakers will update Bynum's condition before Friday's game against Dallas.

Bynum is the Lakers' third-leading scorer, averaging 11.5 points a game. He is the team's second-leading rebounder, averaging 8.9 a game.

Playing in the D-League did nothing but good for Jordan Farmar, so I definitely think Sun would benefit from it.

Anywho, how about this run the Lakers are on? There's definitely room for improvement in some areas, but overall I would say it is beautiful basketball.  8)
