i think it's more the works of his agent tryna get as much money...doubt it affects his play. lamar's problem is focus, not will.

Lakers offered him 27m/3y.

Mavs would probably offer 34m/5y or the 3y MLE and then a overpaid 2y contract.

I think he stays in LA.

Trouble in Lakerland.

Lakers Withdraw Offer To Odom

Jul 15, 2009 6:07 AM EST
Jerry Buss has followed through with his threat and has removed the $9 million offer that the Lakers put to Lamar Odom after the champion forward did not respond, the L.A. Times is reporting.

Buss grew upset and broke off all negotiations after the offer was reportedly on the table for over a week, and he heard nothing back either way.

"Yes, we have taken the deal off the table," Lakers public relations director John Black said. "Talks have broken down for the time being."

Black was asked if talks could resume in the future.

"That's within the realm of possibility," he said.

Lakers team officials, who were not authorized to speak about the negotiations, said Buss offered Odom a deal for $9 million a season for four years at $36 million, or $10 million a season over three years for a total of $30 million.

Odom and his agent, Jeff Schwartz, were looking for $10 million a year over five seasons.

Bill Simmons owning Laker-Fans again:

Quote
To the Lakers' fans. If you think your boys improved by swapping Trevor Ariza (a 24-year-old who came into his own this past spring, shot 45 percent from 3-point land, came through repeatedly in the clutch, turned into the NBA's single best defensive swingman and doesn't care about his numbers) for Ron Artest (an unreliable 29-year-old head case/attention hog who slipped noticeably as a perimeter defender these past two seasons and has a knack for taking terrible shots at the worst possible times), then absolutely, you're on drugs. I don't know what else to tell you. Your team is worse. I'm sorry. And that's before we get into the whole "Is Lamar Odom coming back?" and "Do you really want to commit to an aging Artest for FIVE years?" questions.

Right, cause we all know how impartial a sports writer Bill Simmons is. ::)

The only thing Ariza has over Artest is age. Artest is a better defender and can create his own shot. Ariza got all his open looks from players double teaming Kobe. If you don't believe it, watch any playoff game and see how many wide open looks Ariza had. Artest will be able to get plenty of open looks playing with Kobe and Gasol too. Ariza will struggle in Houston being one of the main options focused on. Artest also has that toughness (physically and mentally) that the Lakers need. Plus his willingness to take less money to play for a championship team shows he has matured (by Artest standards anyways). Short term, Artest is easily the better option.
