how about ..

if 'hindu' music is for indians ..
and rap is for african-americans

why do non-african-americans listen to rap music?

music is universal, this is just a way of people showing that they're expanding their horizons

I would think that it would be pretty cool to here my cultural music mixed in with hip-hop elements. Some people may not even care where it came from and some may look into the samples and origin of the sound. Either way when I hear it play on the radio or on TV I would be "WOW That's my culture and people enjoy it."

But of course that's just me, I can see how Indians could find it offensive. Butlike everyone has been saying, music is universal.

man indian music is the SHIZNIZIT! lol i mean there's so many intricate details of certain songs that just hypnotise you....complexity at it's finest.


western music dumbs it down by 10000 times, but you gotta take it all into compromise. western music is more to a rythem like a premo drum line for example and indian music is more off the wall and unpredictable like a timbo drum line.  so in order to have that indian sound BUT make it listenable to western ears you have to make the music go at more of reserved beat count like, 1,2 1,2 1,2,3, 1,2,3 , 1234 ('tallica drums  sample  ;D) and just mix in sentar and some other indian instruments. whereas the rythem to a REAL indian song is all over the place like 19028301283091823098.lol that's exagerated but i hope you get the point....and who says i don't know shit about production cough cough minority,7th,ibo,tech cough cough

I dont know... I dont see nothin really wrong with it.. I mean, Like Sikotic said.. I would think it's pretty cool to hear some producer mix in my culture in his beats..  but then again I can see why some people would get offended...

For Example.. I'm mexican.. and for some reason.. I cant even explain it.. it kind of bothered me when I heard that song from Mr Short Khops cd "Es Mi Casa" where Kokane is singing in spanish.. I got over it though... I know they aint doing it to disrespect.. but for some reason it just made me like the song less.

I think I'm a lil more annoyed by people biting my name than my culture though....

yeeeeah i feel you there, like when Deliquent Habbits came out with Tres Delequentes, i was ALLLLLL FOR THAT song. but every time i hear some black dude use spanish rythems i get kinda pissed (i get over it but it kinda offends me and makes me feel used for some reason) like that one song by Wyclef Guantanamera (i think that's how it's spelled) i felt that way  and even when i hear stuff like fatty girl and fiesta by r kelly i feel that way too

Im Indian, Sikh to be exact....

And although i rarley listen to Indian music (and HATE Bollywood films  ???)

Im all for mixing hip hop or other music forms with a twist of Indian music. My friend is a (Indian) DJ and i help him out regualary when he does a gig, and he plays some amazing Bhangra tracks. I.e Gin n Juice with Indian Music mixed in etc .

Stuff sounds hot, and as long as these producers can get there heads through our music and instruments i say go for it.
