LOS ANGELES (Ticker) - The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Jae Seo and Tim Hamulack from the New York Mets for Duaner Sanchez and Steve Schmoll Wednesday in a swap of pitchers.

Seo, 28, went 8-2 with a 2.59 ERA in 14 starts with the Mets last season, including a 5-0 record in eight starts at Shea Stadium. He had a combined 15-6 record with the Mets and Class AAA Norfolk, recording 170 strikeouts and 46 walks in 212 innings.

Hamulack, 29, made his major league debut last season after making 382 minor league appearances. The lefthander appeared in six games with the Mets and allowed six runs and seven hits in 2 1/3 innings.

"With the addition of Seo and Hamulack, we have added some depth to our pitching staff," Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said. "Seo's had success as a starter and is another option for us in the rotation. He knows how to pitch and has a great work ethic. Hamulack has developed to the point of being a strong candidate for a left-handed role in our bullpen."

Sanchez, 26, was 4-7 with a 3.73 ERA in 79 games for the Dodgers last season. He tied for second in the National League in appearances, topping his previous career high of 67 games in 2004. Sanchez assumed the closer's role in August and converted all eight of his save opportunities.

The 25-year-old Schmoll originally was a non-drafted free agent who signed with Los Angeles in 2003. He went 2-2 with a 5.01 ERA with three saves in 48 appearances last season.

Also on Wednesday, the Mets signed second baseman Bret Boone to a minor league contract. Boone, 36, split last season between Seattle and Minnesota, batting .231 with seven homers and 34 RBI in 74 games.

With the Mets trying to upgrade at second base, they hope the three-time All-Star can return to past form. Boone slugged 183 homers from 1998-2004 and drove in 100 runs in three consecutive campaigns, including an American League-leading 141 RBI for Seattle in 2001.

Overall, Boone is a .266 hitter with 252 home runs and 1,021 RBI in 14 seasons with Cincinnati, Atlanta, San Diego, Seattle and Minnesota. He has 251 home runs as a second baseman, fourth most all-time, 55 behind leader Jeff Kent.

Right now, New York has Kaz Matsui penciled in at second base, but the Japanese native struggled last year, batting .255 with three homers and 24 RBI in 87 games.

I expect another RP coming soon.  I really cant see Colletti hope that Brazoban, Broxton, Osoria, fill in just like that.
