Cinco De Mayo is a celebration of an important victory for the Mexicans over the French army back in the day, it didn't really mean shit in the long run cause the French came back and dominated them but for some reason it's still a big holiday in Latin America and some of Northern America, especially here on the westcoast.

Cinco de Mayo is more of a Chicano thang. Ya' know, we basically see the victory over an invading power as what we had to go through we the U.S. took over the Northern half of Mexico, or what is now California, New Mexico, Arizona and you know the rest. So we basically celebrat Cinco de Mayo because, one, we are not independent since we are in U.S. rule, and two, the victory over the French proves that we can beat a huge power. Chicanos have been celebrating Cince de Mayo over Independance day for a while now.

One last thing, FUCK THE FRENCH... lol... j/k, I have not beef with French now.

anyways cinco de mayo is big where i live i remember in the 4th grade i had to say this speech, and i still remember this one line where i had to say " the mexican soldiers erraticated the french opposition in hand to hand combat"  Here cinco de mayo is about as big as easter i'd say....it's funny cuz one of my mom's day care kids came to the day care in some spanish dress she had to wear at school.....and this kid is whiter than an albino.
