Shyne Signs Seven-Figure Deal With Def Jam
« on: February 16, 2010, 06:09:55 PM »
Recently freed rapper Shyne has inked a seven-figure deal with Def Jam, according to reports.

According to Miss Info, Def Jam won a bidding war between Dr. Dre, Jimmy Iovine and other labels, for the rights to release Shyne's highly anticipated album, his first since 2004.

Shyne is also reportedly being managed by HipHopSince1978, the same company that manages the careers of Drake, Young Jeezy and Lil Wayne.

It’s being reported that Shyne is planning to record his album in London, although he was not allowed entry into the country last week, because of his immigration papers.

This is the second time that Shyne has inked a deal with Def Jam.

He signed a seven-figure deal with the label in 2004, although he clashed with CEO LA Reid over the promotion of his album, Godfather: Buried Alive.

His first album, Shyne was released in 2000, but his career was brought to a halt in 2001.

Shyne, real name Moses Michael Leviy , was convicted of two counts of assault, reckless endangerment and gun possession, after the high profile 1999 nightclub shooting, which also involved Sean “Diddy” Combs and his then girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez.[/b]

honestly, what does he have to rap about?  ten years in prison.  the only legitimate route for him to take is

A) talk about the mess that landed him there
B) talk about prison life
C) go the conscious route (something like TI did)
D) all the above

I'ma have 2 let Shyne do Shyne but at the end of the day who gives a shit.  It'll be "press worthy" for about 10 minutes and that's that.  I'm way more interested in a Black Rob album than a Shyne track.

He should of gone with Dre.

I remember when Royce 5'9" was working on the Chronic 2 album back in 1999 and I was sure that he was going to be the next big artist to blow up.  Then I heard that he went and signed a deal with Tommy Boy.  I bet at the time he had an opportunity with Aftermath or possibly Shady Records after it was started in 2000.  He really should of waited and done whatever was necessary to stay on good terms with Dre.  But instead he ended up being a disgruntled emcee, with great music dispersed over unreleased materials, subpar albums, and other bootlegs/mixtapes.

I know Dre doesn't drop albums and artists get stranded but maybe Shyne could have put something in his contract that guaranteed a release date in 2010 or 2011.  Shyne first solo album was a certified banger, should have blown up even more than it did.  But I fear with the Def Jam signing he's going to put out some bullshit like that track he did with Ashanti, when the real fans want another "Bad Boyz" type of single.

Wow, that jail sentence could have been the best thing that happened to Shyne's career. 7 figure deal? That's crazy for someone who hasnt put out nothin in so long.

He should have so much to talk about. All that time in cell will have given him plenty to think about if he aint gone crazy! It'll be interesting to know if his mind is fresh is washed up through cell though. He'll have way more than the normal rapper to be able to talk about. His shit previous to prison, his time there, the drama, club shit too...

Should be interesting...but like someone else said, give me a black rob album

You don't know details. Does Def Jam pay everything or does Shyne have to pay for studio time, producers, etc. himself?

This press release sounds too good to be true if you ask me.
