Best mixtape don't mean anything to me to be honest.

2012 was the year of the blockbuster albums (not much underground/independent stuff interested me)

1. Nas - Life Is Good
2. T.I. - Trouble Man
3. King T - Still Triflin
4. Xzibit - Napalm
5. Horse Shoe Gang - True Story EP

Sooooooo much crap was released this year I had to include a mixtape and an EP in my top 5.

Busta, Meek, Ross, MGK, Sean Price (disappointed in that), DMX etc. etc...... crap

I thought Busta was ok for a 'free album' - if it was a major release I'd be disappointed

Liked DMX's album, got a few spins but it was basically crap

It just seemed like it was gonna be a real release and then he realized at some point ''nobody gives a fuck. Give it away free''

Still love that Tears for Fears sample though!

Busta's just droppin hot verses on other peoples shit right now (still killin it). I don't think he was ever in the lab seriously making a full project, and google probably offered him some shit to drop the album on their service..I don't blame him for handing them something full of filler

And it was still a better album than Slaughterhouse

yeah well he raps fast.. hasnt killed a verse in years.. And to me its just sad that nobody gives a fuck about their legacy..

It would be amazing to have nothing but classics in your catalogue but mistakes like yotd just fucks it up.. and whatever his previous album was called didnt help either.. the album that started out being called b.l.e.s.s.e.d.

In no particular order and due to lack of creativity, I am including selections from the previous year as well... Also, these are specifically for the Hip Hop Genre irrespective of other genres outside of Rap in general.

- Kendrick Lamar: good kid, m.A.A.d city
- 9th Wonder & Murs: Final Adventure
- Nas: Life is Good
- Joey Bada$$: 1999  **Not an album but better than most albums released which qualifies it on principle alone.
- Big K.R.I.T.: 4Eva N A Day **Not an album but enough good original material to qualify. '11
- Immortal Technique: The Martyr  **Not an album but a compilation of unreleased material and new tracks but who cares, its Immortal Technique (and his material packs more historical and social relevance than a fucking textbook) '11

To get 4 actual albums, I'd have to include 2011 lol - in which case...

- The Roots: Undun '11

Honorary mention for single(s)...

- Ras Kass: Sushi

Man, to me this was an amazing year for hip hop, so much dope music, top 5 in no particular order right now would be:

Kendrick - Good Kid m.A.A.d. City
Nas - Life Is Good
Skyzoo - A Dream Deferred
Schoolboy Q - Habits and Contradictions
Xzibit - Napalm

Honorable mentions: Killer Mike - Rap Music, Ab Soul - Control System, Curren$y - Stoned Immaculate, Big Krit - Live From The Underground, Freeway - Diamond In The Ruff

Best mixtape probably Freddie Gibbs - Baby Faced Killa

(Also need to give T.I. and Big Boi's albums time to sink in)

Damn good year in my opinion!
