Lady of Rage 1997 album discussion thread
« on: August 13, 2021, 04:05:32 PM »
This album was released in Summer of 97'.  Daz was still around and he had his own single/video out with Soopafly "Put the Monkey In It".  Then 2pac had a monster release with Scarface that summer "Smile For Me".  So Death Row was kind of still in the mix.  Gridlocked, Gang Related, and Death Row Greatest Hits has sold pretty well just a few months before.

So why did the Rage album fail so bad?  Were there any bangers on there?  I remember buying the album when it came out and never really listened to it again after that.  Back in those days they would give you like 5 dollars for used cd's like that, I think I returned it.

Anybody remember anything from this album?

Sho Shot was decent.  They waited too long on Rage.  Despite having Easy Mo Bee, Daz and DJ Premier on production, the production wasn't great. It sucked, because she was talented.  She should have went with Dre to Aftermath.

It's a good album. I still bump it from time to time.

I've been tryin' to find the original pressing from '97. I've always had the Ron Winter Productions remaster.

that Rough, Rugged and Raw joint was produced by Reg Flair one of the producers on Snoops "Gold Rush" and "Sixx Minutes" 8)

I enjoyed the album as well but it wasnt very marketable...Rage spitting her usual battle raps over mixed East and West coast production

plus the fact that Death Row in '97 was past its commercial prime

album was dope but underwhelming because we expected a classic based on it bein a death row release and rage bein the goat female emcee

death row dropped the ball by not givin her an album in 94-96 produced by dre prior to him leaving

I think we can safely say Rage ain’t as dope as people think.. if you look at the people who took part in this album she had a lot of support and couldn’t come up with much...  sure she is one of the dopest females and as far as female rappers go other than Lauryn Hills they’ve never made great albums

most death row rappers wouldnt be as dope as we think witout dre

It's okay, I would say my fav track is probably Big Bad Lady. I think she was set to drop after The Chronic with an album produced entirely by Dre, but kept getting pushed back for other projects, and Dre leaving/Pac showing up was the final nail in the coffin.
