Above the Law – Uncle Sam’s Curse

1. Return of the real shit…One of Hutch’s tightest beats.  Nice chorus with the help of Kokane.  I like the piano in the chorus.  5/5
2. Set free…Real laidback beat that goes well with lyrics and the church-choir sounding chorus.  4/5
3. Kalifornia…Another amazing beat by Hutch.  Just a song about the Cali lifestyle.  Kokane’s verse adds a lot to the song.  Catchy hook.  5/5
4. Concrete jungle…I like the beat here and the lyrics are cool, but overall this just seems to be an average song.  3/5
5. Rain be for rain bo…Slow beat.  Lyrics fit nicely here with another great chorus by Kokane.  4/5
6. Everything will be alright…Nice up-tempo beat, although the guitar loop gets a bit repetitive.  Hook could have been better.  3.5/5
7. Black Superman…Good intro to the song with audio from “Attica against the Wall”.  Easily Above the Law’s best song.  No faults here.  Perfect.  5/5
8. The G in me…I wasn’t really feeling this song.  It’s alright, but pretty much just an average song.  3/5
9. Uncle Sam’s curse…I’m loving the beat here.  Nice overall song.  4/5
10.   One time two meny…A solid ‘fuck the police’ song.  Slow beat with a nice added touch of the bell in the loop.  4/5
11.   Who ryde…Very slow beat with the classic west coast touch to it.  Nothing really much to the chorus, but I love it.  4.5/5
12.   Gangsta madness…Good west coast slow/sad beat.  Kokane’s hook is perfect.  A song with the message that hustling doesn’t last forever.  4.5/5

A Classic album.  Hutch’s production throughout is untouchable.  These are just straight up gangsta lyrics and beats with Hutch’s cousin Kokane doing more than half of the CD’s hooks.  It’s Above the Law’s best album.

OVERALL…9.5/10

Great review! Hopefully, Ruthless will release gems like "Uncle Sam's Curse" or "100 Miles And Runnin'" again because it's almost impossible to get them today.

Indeed :-/ ??? :(

It took me almost a year to get a copy of this cd but it was well worth the wait and it only cost me 6 bucks. This cd is a westcoast classic, their best release and their rarest. I don't skip a single song on this cd. The production by Hutch is top notch.

Another West Coast classic. Cracka J always reviewing the best West Coast albums. Props cause that's what I love to read. I like to hear other people's opinions on album I enjoyed for so many years. This was the first Above The Law album I bought and I think it's their best. The video for "Black Superman" was tight and it was what got me listening to Above The Law. I then bought their older albums but this album always will be my favorite from them. The production is top notch!
