Israel Plans To Build 6,391 New Homes In The West Bank
« on: February 25, 2005, 04:33:13 AM »
All this at a time when things were starting to look up!

Israel 'plans new W Bank homes'
Israel plans to build more than 6,000 new homes in settlements in the West Bank, an Israeli newspaper quoting the state land authority has reported.
Yediot Ahronot says the government will also legitimise 120 unauthorised settlement outposts.

The report says the expansion would coincide with Israel's planned withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

The US-backed roadmap peace plan calls on Israel to freeze all settlement activity and scrap dozens of outposts.

All settlements are widely considered illegal under international law, although this is disputed by Israel.

The Israel Lands Administration has neither confirmed nor denied the report.

'Natural growth'

The newspaper says the government plans to build 6,391 new homes in existing settlements.

 JEWISH SETTLEMENTS
400,000 Israelis live in 150 settlements in West Bank (including East Jerusalem)
7,000 Israelis live in 16 settlements in the Gaza Strip
80% of settlers in West Bank live close to Israel's border
Most settlements have fewer than 1,000 citizens

It says a third of the homes would be built in Maaleh Adumim, the largest settlement in the West Bank, with a population of about 30,000.
The report says the government also plans to "legitimise" 120 unauthorised outposts - crude settlement satellites built on hilltops without official permission.

Under the roadmap, Israel is obliged to dismantle all outposts erected since March, 2001.

The existence of West Bank settlements is one of the most contentious issues between Israel and the Palestinians.

The Palestinians seek the removal of all settlements and outposts in the West Bank and Gaza - areas in which they wish to establish a state.

Israel maintains it is entitled to build within existing settlements to accommodate what it calls "natural growth".

iraq would just get annexed by iran

That would be a great solution.  If Iran and the majority of Iraqi's are pleased with it, then why shouldn't they do it?

But, but, but what about the terrorists?!?!?!?!
"One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" was his response. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."
