Rolling Stone gave Late Registration a 5.

Politics.

They also gave the Beasties last album a 5. It's not bad, but it's no 5.

^^ in how far do they "politically" benefit from that? or, respectively, are it the rap record reviews that turn out the way they do for the reason of "politics" or all kinds of reviews?

lol, that would be "Hände hoch!"

All kinds. When something is hot or given mainstream praise as something amazing, mainstream reviewers have a tendency to follow suit. With Kanye, with the Beasties it wasn't politics it was something else; alcohol maybe. Look at  Nevemind by Nirvana. When it came out it was a nice album with some catchy tunes. Most big time reviewers gave it a 3 out of 5. Then they exploded, Kurt died, everyone remembered the album like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread thanks to all the media hype the past few years, and all of a sudden it's getting 4s and 5s in re-reviews.

Kanye isn't jusy hot right now, but he's being being praised as some kind of modern musical genius. I think he's a no-talent hack and would have no problem writing that but if I worked at Rollingstone my review wouldn't be released. They'd bump me for a guy with a more positive review. Race also plays a factor. It's not easy for a white magazine like Rollingstone to say a black artist absolutely sucks with out being called racist, and knowing Kanye he'd go public with that accusation.

It's gonna be great. Paul has been consistent, and arguably his greatest album was from 1997, with 2 excellent ones in 99 and 01. He's still got it. I might pick it up today, for sure in the next week though.

I liked Flaming Pie, thought it was great but there's no way it's his best solo album.

I went to a Paul McCartney concert in 2003 at the Liverpool Albert Docks. One of the best concerts I have ever been to! I also went to The Cavern club before the concert. It was amazing to be in the place where The Beatles started out from, I don't think the club has even changed a bit by the looks of it.

Except for being destroyed and rebuilt on the other side of the road.  The original Cavern Club is long gone, but they don't really like to talk about that...

Just realized nobody actually reviewed the album.

It's a great album, I'd say even better than Flaming Pie.

"English Tea" is really reminiscent of "For No One" I think, really a great song.

"Jenny Wren"... when I heard it was the sequel to blackbird I thought it would be horrible but he actually pulled it off.  Sounds fucking phenomenal.

Another of my favorites on the album is "This never happened before".  Really well done.

Paul still has the Beatles magic, I know that's a shitty way to compliment him but it's the truth.  Whatever he had when he was with the Beatles he still has a little of on this album.  "English Tea" is up there with some of the best stuff he ever wrote.
