This album found a home in my collection in 96'...and it still get's spin's. His collab with Biggie was a set up for the world on what was to come on "Life after Death"...up to that point all BIG fan's were feindin for some new ish.."Brooklyn's finest" deff quenched our thirst for a tight Biggie track...but yo who was this dude holding his own with B.I.G.?

Plus he had the top cutt at the time of it's release..."Ain't no"
Knowing what we know now about Jay-Z...all the sucess & accolades...as well as anomosity he has built up through his carrar so far.
it only makes us look back at this album like daaanm!!

(Pac & Biggie still being alive, I don't know if Jigga get's as much acclaim as he does....but we'll never know)

I give him his props on a tight album..

Reasonable Doubt is cleary Jay Z's best work but not even one of the greatest albums of all time

Reasonable Doubt is clearly one of the best albums of all time, no matter what you all say.. I doubt you have listened to the full album... anyway, it don't matter what you say, it is recognized as a classic album by media/press (5 mics in the source, 10 out of 10 at www.rapreviews.com, the biggest rap reviews site on the net) and hip-hop heads alike (not including jealous, ignorant people as yourself) None of the albums above are better. Don't base your opinion on hate.

I too believe Reasonable Doubt is overrated
Sure its a great album, but 5 mics, nope, maybe 4 & a half
Theres a few songs on that album that are skipable. Dead Presidents II is probably Jay-Z's best song ever IMO.

I also believe Illmatic is overated.
Sure great album, but it is WAY too short, much like Regulate was. Plus I found a few songs skipable. I'd probably give it 4 mic's, maybe 4 & a half.

Thats just my opinion. I feel a number of albums are overrated. Even my favorite East Coast rap duo Mobb Deep have been overrated. The Infamous was a great cd but not a 5 mic.

The Source giving Beanie Sigel's debut "The Truth" 4 & a half mics is just an example of how much there mic system sucks.

Someone should come up with a new system & judge it better. Heck maybe even more accurate, with a percentage score, or a star system they use for rating wrestling matches (example, ***3/4 = 3 & three quater stars)

absolutely superb and would rate it above the majority of those albums u listed BrownPride323.
Anyway maybe it grows on u. u need to listen to it the whole way through, start to end.

illmatic is so so so a definately 5 mics its unbelievable imo
sure its short but anymore would disturb its balance.
IMO illmatic is the best album ever hands down

who gives a FUCK about the media, and yes Jay Z lacks charisma and yea Nas lacks charisma too but his lyrics make it up for it. Just cuz i dont put Reasonable Doubt as one of the best albums of all time dont mean im hating. U just assume im hating. Hating would be this...Reasonable Doubt is wack, and i didnt say that, I said its Jay Z's best work up to date. If Jay Z goes back to his 96 style. I give it 4.5 mics. Damn im not hating. Trust me this album is at top of my list but not one of the greatest. For me the greatest is like the top 5 and reasonable doubt is in the top 10

the amount of energy, the tremendously good lyrics, the amazing beats in Ready 2 die, Doggystyle, Me Against the World, Enter the Wu. Reasonable doubt dont even come close to these albums.
