For everybody who says they don't hear similarities between the bay and the south, here are some songs from Tampa that I said sound very similar to Bay songs.

Ca$hius and Q45 - Tampa Song (Prod. by J Butta)
http://s38.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2BPNBZY4VJQ6J3ODCAXE3CGQ0B
-This track is from 2003. It sounds A LOT, and I mean a LOT like Super Hyphy. Whenever I play Super Hyphy for somebody in Florida, they are like "is that Q45/Cashius song? Oh it ain't? It sounds just like it." Super Hyphy was prolly my favorite song last year, but it took me a while to hear it without thinkin about this track. It also sounds a bit like "Bang it" because of the drum-bass line.

Khia - K-Wang wit it
http://s38.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1QYFYVZSS80ZN0SWQFN33VCN5D
-This track came out in either 2001 or 2002, but I know it got played in every Florida club around 2002. It sounds like Super Hyphy as well...this song is really the one that inspired the previous song that I posted. This is the same girl who did that "My neck, my back" track.

Tampa Tony - Keep Jukin
http://s38.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2X83YXXIFL2PO3EP6D7AUNE4U5
-This track came out in either 2002 or 2003. It sounds a lil bit like Get on my hype to me, but it just has the same vibe as some Hyphy songs.

DSD - Look back at it
http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3CIAEV4OZ03WD3506MWDKTGVOZ
-I donno when it came out, but I don't think it's too old. It has a similar tempo and vibe to a lotta Bay songs, like "Burn rubber" and The Team "Hot in here"

if you own any e-40 albums you'll see lil johns beats on them long before lil john was even big....the bay helped them out.
niggas don't think the bay is against the south, just some niggaz steal shyt and act like they don't know where it came from.
even other westcoast niggaz...poppin they collar and fashizzle? the fuckboy know he got that shyt from da yay.
i can't beliive you sat down and actually wrote all this tho...i hope it was also for a class or somthing...
bottom line is nigga out here don't even give a fuck we mashing and the bay gonna blow...bay is gettin money. niggaz sell enough indie records to have the chains and whips niggaz is tryna go platnum for... peace.

E 40 blew up in the South before he blew up in the Bay. The south always had major love for the Bay, and Federal is an example where they gave the Bay love before the Bay gave the Bay love. All this regional shit is goin too far sometimes.

R-Tistic, you made some good points. However, you fail to realize, when the South was underground (the beginning - '97), they checked for Bay Area music, more so than LA. Listen to the Eight Ball & MJG's(Suave House), and early Cash Money. The South was influenced by the West, but heavily more so by the Bay Area scene. Eventually the South coined their own niche/sound, but we ( The Bay) birthed the shit.

Yeah I have realized bein down here that many people in the south check for the Bay more so than LA, especially when it comes to artists who aren't on TV. I just see different people, mainly on the net, who are from the Bay that seem to feel the south hates on them too, and they hate bein seen in the same categories as the south and all that. The South's overall sound did evolve from a lot of 80s Bay rap, and some of the 80s Bay rap came from the midwest funk sound which evolved from the 60s and 70s down south and midwest soul music. So everything evolves and goes in cycles.

Im gonna be straight up real with yall...untill the internet was around people didnt really seperate LA and bay area rap...
It was all cali or westcoast, I remember thought hearing artistst representing the bay early in the 90's(spice 1, E40 richie rich etc)  and noticed a few distinct differences mainly that the beats were alot thicker with the mobbed out baselines and the 808 style production and they used alot of lingo that I wasnt yet up on...Polotics eventually took to play when LA radio stations werent playing up and coming bay area artists and it seemed like all the sudden late 90's its two whole seperate genres of music.

I think if we could get rid of that segregated mentality westcoast hip hop would be dominant again.

That could be the case, but I don't really know. I grew up all years before college in LA, and I never really went to the bay to kick it like that and I only met people from there on different high school trips. I never really saw the Bay as bein separate, I just knew they had a different sound that everybody in LA that I knew still fucked with just as hard. I didn't even know there was tension between the Bay and LA until I got to college, and my first year here, it seemed like there were several people from The Bay who didn't get along with several people from LA. It usually didn't involve the music though, it was more about culture. But now, it seems like most younger people from LA, at least the college aged ones, love most new Bay music, and the older heads love the older bay music. The younger ones who aren't in college don't know too much about what they got goin on, aside from those who use the internet.

LA rap>Bay rap IMO. But I can see why there is resentment in the bay. They really need there props. Shit is on a diffrent level up there.

The reason there is resentment in the Bay is because the Bay feels underappreciated and disrespected by pretty much everywhere else while the Bay slang, trends and style start popping up in various places throughout the map and those places take the credit for it. Personally I dont care nothin about all the bay vs the world shit. i would like to see these artists out here get some recognition cause in all honesty I think we got the best rap music period, but its not somethin i'm gonna have bad feelings for nobody over. I love LA, the South AND the East Coast and I got major love in each of those places from damn near everybody I came into contact with. nobody was like, "Oh you from the Bay? Fuck the Bay!" lol folks need to just ease up a little bit. Rockers and R&B cats and country singers dont give a fuck about where nobody is from, and damn sure aint gonna hate no other region over some fuckin music. Maybe rap is just self destructive by nature.
