Loud Records To Close?
« on: March 13, 2002, 09:49:02 AM »
This is from a few days ago so I don't know if anyones heard about this yet, but check it out:

"The home of the Wu Tang Clan, Xzibit and Mobb Deep may be about to close its doors according to music industry rumours.

Although Loud Records hasn’t confirmed the rumour, a source close to the label says that Loud will shut its doors permanently at the end of the month.

Steven Rifkind, his brother Jonathan Rifkind and Rich Isaacson founded loud Records in 1992. The label was set up with the objective of discovering and nurturing the most promising talents in underground hip hop. Over the past ten years Loud has built up an impressive roster of urban music including Wu Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, Big Punisher, Funkmaster Flex, Pete Rock, Xzibit and Dead Prez. Loud merged with Sony Music in July 1999 and Violator records in April 2000.

The rap industry is only just recovering from the news earlier in the month that the home of De La Soul, the legendary Tommy Boy Records, was set to close."

(08 March 2002)

I hope this isn't true, they home some dope artists & it would be a shame to see a label that scouts underground talent close. What y'all think about this?

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

That means the Xzibit and Dead Prez albums are gonna get delayed. Fuck man this sucks. I hope it's just a bullshit rumor but it wouldn't surprise me since everything else is going bankrupt or out of business.

Loud Closes Doors

Wednesday, March 13, 2002
As we reported exclusively last week, Loud Records has today closed its doors for good. The label which has been around for more than a decade closed amid increasing pressure from mother company Sony.

Below expectation results from the Big Pun, Prodigy and Wu Tangs album last year played a role in the labels demise. No word yet on where Loud artists (which also includes Xzibit and Mobb Deep) will now go. We'll keep you updated. Again, remember where you heard it first.

Shit main, this is bad news indeed.

The Xzibit-albu will probably be delayed until x-mas.
I wonder where Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang, M.O.P & Xzibit will sign now? Should be interesting to see.

well isnt xzibits OPEN BAR distributed by loud too?...if it is then the golden state project will be delayed....otherwise xzibit can take his label to an indi label...get distribution and do it himself...that would be the shit...wu tang will get another deal somewhere....i doubt mobb deep will go indi....and i heard m.o.p. was going to caca-fella(how contradicting).....

Yeah, Open Bar is through Loud, that GSP-project will probably be delayed there too. Even though I am a big fan of Dre-beats, I don't hope Xzibit will go to Aftermath, as Xzibit must wait 5 years for each album to come out.

I doubt Xzibit will go indy, he was double plat. with his last album, so why step it down? He probably wants the GSP to blow as well.

M.O.P.:Probably Roc-a-fella, Dame Dash been wanting to sign them for 3 years now.

Mobb Deep: Could go indy to get back some of the street-respect they lost on Infamy. Probably have Def Jam on their nuts.

Wu-Tang: I would guess Def Jam would be on the lookout, or they'll start their own shit.

I hope Krayzie drops his next solo's under "Mo Thugs" that labels been dead since he left it but if anyone can bring it back its him. 8)

Oh and Xzibit joins Aftermath i will never buy another X album again. :'(

I've been down with x since 97 but i don't think i could handle another "Restless" style album.
