too many cd's
« on: March 13, 2006, 06:50:44 AM »
I'm thinking about selling a big part of my cd collection. I got so many albums I haven't paid attention to in years... it's like a waste of space and I can still get money for a lot cd's... the past few months the only records I have bought are rare or classic or they fit in my collection. The great thing about it is: rare/classic albums or singles don't cost shit!

My question is: who else has gone through this time period? How was it? How did you deal with it emotionally?

dont do it man......I went thru this a few years back and got rid of 150+ albums and amd still regreting it to this day.... :'(

I would do anything to get those albums back now, and the sad part is you cant even go to the record store and buy them back becuase most of them arent even available in stores anymore....

Well... I'll never get rid of my TQ collection for example. I got so many promos, retail singles and albums he is featured on. It's rediculous. I won't ever get rid of my 2Pac collection either, but I wonder sometimes: why do I have the soundtrack of Romeo Must Die? Why do I have Usher's latest album? Why do I have Diplomatic Immunity?

That is what I mean. I like to have rare/hard to get shit and items for my collections, but these crappy albums... nah :-\ I just don't know what to do yet, lol

they have since been banished from my home and into someone elses collection.

i went through the same thing about 4 years ago, i sold like 150 cds, and my collection was cut down to like 65, i mean since then ive built it back up to over a hundred.  but i looked at my collection and thought, how do i want this to define my taste in music, i want to have a collection of all dope and classic hip hop albums, not corny ass soundtracks and fucking commercial cds or cds i bought that thought were gonna be dope.  how do you want yourself to be represented by your music.

yeah  man its definitely smart to streamline your collection, i streamline my shit almost every week, and i only buy the classics or rare stuff. I'll occassionaly buy new miainstream cds to bump in the car, but after awhile i just trade that shit back in. my criteria for buying music is that i ask myself if i will still be listening to the prospective cd in 20 yeaers. If i cant see myself listening to it 20 years down the line, iwont buy it. so i pretty much dont even bother with like shit like glasses  malone, or like mitchy slick, or just any of that new west shit, its got no staying power in my rotation. i prob have like a 100 cd collection, but every cd is damn near hip hop classic or staple. you will probably only find like 5-10 cds that came out after 96.

I have like 200 original cds but I had more before . A clean up was necessary ( what I was thinking about when I bought these Nelly or Rule cds  :-X)

Mauzip - I guarantee that if you get rid of a load of CDs, in a few years you'll want to hear some random track and realise you gave the album away. Don't do it!

Fuck the space - just buy some of those big flip books. That's where all my CDs are other than doubles or ones with special jewel cases. I just chuck the jewel cases away and keep all the flip books under the computer desk. They take up no space at all, and I'm talking about hundreds upon hundreds of CDs in there.

I have mp3 rips of ALL of my cd's, including every cd single.

trust me just sell em on ebay or back to the store. just establish your criteria from now on as "will i still be listening to this album in X amount of years" and if its No, then dont buy it. cos in that X amount of years, youre going to ask yourself the same question "why did i buy this crappy album?"
