It depends on each person. For example, Youngster said "not alot of metaphors", but for me, a tight ass lyricist spits some incredible metaphors (ex: Ras Kass).

Some people may think simplicity and flow a good lyricist make, but me personally, a good lyricist must:

Use allusions, metaphors and similies + other literature techniques

Have an expanded vocabulary

The actual word-weaving must make sense, so Kurupt doesnt really count ("psychosomatic, automatic, tragic" -- I mean, I like it, but i dont think thats good word piecing). The sentence has to make proper sense.

To me, Ras Kass is lyricism.

Warren G, on the other hand, I dont think should even be considered a lyricist. He's good in his own way though. Way too simple

Tupac wasn't a very good lyricist. He rapped really well, but was very simplistic in his nature. Which was a very good thing, it made him very clear to understand, but I wouldn't exactly say he was an amazingly gifted Lyricist. He was a rapper.

With all this extra stressin
The question I wonder is after death, after my last breath
When will I finaly get to rest?  Through this supression
they punish the people that's askin questions
And those that possess, steal from the ones without possesions
The message I stress: to make it stop study your lessons
Don't settle for less - even the genius asks questions
Be grateful for blessings
Don't ever change, keep your essence
The power is in the people and politics we address
Always do your best, don't let the pressure make you panic
And when you get stranded
And things don't go the way you planned it
Dreamin of riches, in a position of makin a difference
Politicians and hypocrites, they don't wanna listen
If I'm insane, it's the fame made a brother change
It wasn't nuttin like the game
It's just me against the world

was 2pac really not that good of a lyricist?

Word!!  Do people think it makes them intelligent if they can find an argument against 2pac?  He's the greatest, you can throw dirt on 2pac.  Period.

I'm not trying to "throw dirt" on 2Pac. All I am saying is that he was a simple lyricist. I stress, this IS NOT A BAD THING... it is great for him. I don't believe he is the greatest, but I'm not hating on You guys for saying that you believe he is. Everything's opinion; infinite59's opinion is that Pac is the greatest, so more power to him. But just because of that, it doesn't make him Right. It doesn't make me right either.

Cause history's best qualified to teach one
Quoting German philosopher Schopenhauer
"Every white man is a faded or a bleached one"
Migration created further mutation
Genetic drifts, evolution through recombination
Adaptation to the climate
As the Caucus Mountain man reverted to that of a primate
Savage Neanderthals, until the late Paleolithic age
That's when the Black Grimaldi man came
With the symbol of the dragon, fire and art
Check cave paintings in France and Spain to the Venus of Willendorf
Around 2000 B.C. Southern Russians migrate in small units
Those who travel West populated Europe
Those who went East settled in Iran, known as Aryans
1500 B.C. some crossed the Khyber Pass into India and
created Hinduism, the first caste system, the origins of racism

These are a Few lines from Nature Of The Threat, what I believe to be the greatest song EVER.

what makez lyricz good lyricz....iz a step by step structure that alowez tha listiner to flow into tha track without trippen"...
detailing-in the case of a stroytellin-structured track.
proper use of poetic elmentz (usually this meanz not to overuse..:))....just enough to sharpen but not enough to make it unecsesable or topiclly inconsistent.

^a pretty simple forumla....not that simple to fullfeel these demandz tho....many...many rapperz fail doing it.
We are all human beings isn't that a good enough reason for peace?

People who rhyme, use simileys, use examples, people who make things sound good, and a story makes lyrics sound good to
