Honestly, the biggest problem that I see on the west is there really aint too much unity amongst the artists and/or producers out there. Take a look at how cats in ATL,H-Town or anywhere in the south is doing it. Almost every artist in the south that comes out will almost always feature other south artist on albums or songs. I would love to see LA and Bay area artists link up and support eachother just as much as cats in the south is, ya know.

^^^True, more unity is needed.

If u look at Dre he HAS helped the west out over the recent years, he pushed Xzibit & Knoc into the limelight, he produced a track 4 Warrens return of the regulator & Nate's Music & Me (In no they were in 2001 but its still quite recent), he produced Games album, and hes signed Bishop.

But wen artists like X & Knoc go it on their own without Dre, it just doesnt work (or not as well as it did with Dre anyway). It's not that Dres not tryin, its the fact that the world is not as interested if hes not there, its like artists get stuck in Dres shadow.

Snoop has realized that n has tried 2 go it alone without Dre, and he has been successful, but a lot of his fans stil wanna hear him with Dre and he'll neva get away from that fact cos wen he works with Dre it brings the best out of him. 8)
I will believe Detox when I hear a single for it and have the album in my hands.
but what if you loose your hands before Detox drops?

Ice Cube
The man said it himself in an interview with Murder Dog in 2004 that he is not even going to bother helping anyone on the west anymore or help to bring up new artists. Which is a shame because I feel he could do a lot more for the coast.

Didn't damn near everyone he tried to put on or help end up dissin' him at some time. I can't say I blame him.
Being a LAKER is a privilige. Unfortunately some "Lakers" have forgotten that.

I know Suge can't do shit now I just mentioned him as an example but he could have done something back in 2001.

As for the west coast sound why does it have to be universal?

The south has been doing the same shit for years and no one says anything about their sound and I'm from the south so I should know.  I feel that when I buy a west coast album I want it to sound like a west coast album not like an east coast or down south album.

Also I admit I was a little hard on Snoop but I still feel he could do more and you guys made some good points.

Yeah, and why do you think that's a good thing?  That means the South ain't gonna last forever.  A lot of Southern rappers that used to be big have already gone under.  It's the rappers like T.I. who work with Swizz Beatz that are doing well - doesn't that tell you anything?

When did I say that was a good thing?!

I was trying to make the point that a lot of down south rappers use the same sound and rap about the same thing and no says anything about it.

And so what if T.I. works with Swizz Beats I don't support T.I. and hate Swizz Beats production and I really rappers would stop working with him.

These guys are all artists, not artist developers.  Its not their responsibility to develop new talent -- the fact that they have done it in the past for their friends should be respectable enough.

Well as a producer / CEO I think it is Dr. Dre's job to work with and develop new artists.

And what do you think he is doing with Bishop and Game? The problem is he isn't like scott storch, Lil Jon or Jazze Pha. He's not one of those hot producers that will work with anybody. He really limits himself so he can give it 100%. I think one of those producers that will work with lots of people is something the west coasst needs.

You missed the point.  The point is, the fact that the South adheres so strongly to one style is what's going to bring it down (probably in the near future, too).  The West fell off because it couldn't put out anything but G-Funk, and everyone hated that back in the mid-90s'.  Well, now the South ain't puttin out nothing but crunk (essentially), and a lotta people are complaining about that. 10 years ago, you would've been saying the same thing about the West that you're saying about the South.

My point is that T.I. ain't all that different from cats like Game...he crossed over by working with many different producers and not limiting himself to only Lil Jon or Mannie Fresh and appealing to a wider audience.  So unlike most other Southern cats, he'll probably last a lot longer cause he's shown an ability to adapt himself to different audiences and tastes.

But the difference between what the south is doing now and G-Funk is that G-Funk was a good sound and I still don't understand to this day why everyone hates it.

I tired of this it's bad enough that I feel that I'm probably only person down south that wants the west to succeed, but if you guys are happy with being at the bottom of the rap food chain than fine if you don't care that the west doesn't any respect, air play or video play, that's fine with me if you guys don't care then why should I.

I'm done with this thread and the west in general I'm just going to continue support the few artists on the west that I still like and it's not that many.

Peace out.
