Gerrard rules out switch to Real

Gerrard rules out switch to Real

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has rejected speculation linking him with a summer move to Real Madrid and insists he is staying at Anfield.

Madrid's football director Benito Floro claimed he has put Gerrard on a priority list of transfer targets.

But Gerrard, who has twice almost joined Chelsea, is not interested.

Gerrard said: "I am settled and happy at Liverpool. I will be staying here until the day someone tells me they don't want me."

He added: "I am not going to get involved in all that kind of speculation again. I am not going to go through another summer like the last two."

Gerrard, 25, signed a new four-year contract at Anfield during the summer after strong interest from Chelsea.

And manager Rafael Benitez is also adamant his skipper will stay at the club and said: "The situation is very clear. Steven Gerrard is not for sale."

Meanwhile, chief executive Rick Parry has praised Benitez for qualifying for next season's Champions League, with three games to spare of the current campaign.

Sunday's 1-0 win at Blackburn assured the Reds of at least third place in the Premiership and a spot in Europe's elite tournament.

The club finished fifth last term and only qualified for this season's Champions League after winning the competition in dramatic style.

And Parry told the club website: "Clearly there has been a huge improvement on last year in achieving qualification so early but also, more importantly, by narrowing the gap on Chelsea.

"We have been 30 points adrift for the last two seasons and, although there are still three games to play, it's clear for everyone we are a lot closer now.

"Our league performance has been a mark of real progress. We will only be happy when we start winning league titles - and there is still some way to go. But when we appointed Rafa we knew it would take time."

Liverpool face Chelsea in an FA Cup semi-final on Saturday.

Liverpool are certainly a side going forward, and not sideways.

Apparently they want to sign Daniele Bonera from us in the summer, and we could be likely to sell considering his contract expires the following summer.

We turned down £5m last summer, but I'm sure we couldnt refuse that, this summer.
this season we are already losing our best player- Marco Marchionni - to juventus for zip, I don't wanna lose him too for nought.

Liverpool need to sign a striker, I wouldnt be suprised if they went in for David Villa of Valencia.

Villa? Yes, last summer, but he's got that Owen-mould about him that Liverpool need, and he's of course .. spanish,
He's gotta try sign a small-pacey forward to play alongside Crouch/Morientes, and no doubt Rafa will look to Spain.

Michael Owen
Jermaine Defoe
David Villa

should be his 3 targets, but I think he'll struggle to obtain any 1 of them.

Why don't you think he could get any of them?

Apparently Spurs want to sell Defoe.

Apparently Owen wanted/wants to go back to Liverpool.

Well I don't know much about Villa (apart from the fact he is shit hot!) but I guess he would be interested and they could afford him.

when i say "struggle" i mean, there not gonna come easy.
Villa will warrant a high-tag, as would Owen, (what's that release clause), .. and I can't see Defoe being under £10m either.
of course none are "impossible" though..

it depends how much he sets aside to strengthen the front-line, because he needs to invest in other areas of the park aswell, I guess it depends on how much he is handed top bolster the squad.

I think they need to push-forward to another stage now and try to compete for 2nd place next season.
