Los Angeles rap duo headed to Palm Springs for the Urban Network Marketing and Entertainment Summit with their DVD presentation and latest mix tapes in tow. Their main objective was to make calculated moves by giving their product to selected record industry professionals. On Friday morning they attended the panel for independent rap labels with DJ Quik as one of the panelists. Afterwards they introduced themselves to him and gave him one of their packages.
Talk about quick results! At 3:00 a.m. the next morning, an anonymous caller left a message on the voicemail, “Alright fellas, ya’ll making a little noise. I’m listening to your mix tape, Los Angeles Designer Music, and you got it poppin’!” Although he did not leave his name, they recognized DJ Quik's voice. He said he would call the next day. When they spoke to him he said, “I haven’t heard anything this good from L.A. in a while and, believe, I don’t usually listen to people’s demos.” Quik said he wanted to see what they were like on stage. To their surprise, he invited them to come to Club Maya in Rosarito Beach, Mexico to open up for him on Saturday night. Of course, they agreed.

The duo met up with Quik in San Diego on Saturday and together they went to Mexico. Even though the 3,000 “spring breakers” were antsy to see Quik, the duo took the stage and converted them to Bleu Collar fans for 15 minutes. It was a great experience and now they look forward to working with Quik again in the near future.

Basik and Reese One are Bleu Collar, a Los Angeles duo with a classic sound unparalleled by any other hip-hop act. They are compared to duos such as Outkast and UGK, because of their contrasting rhyme styles and unique chemistry. Bleu Collar runs a fine line between gritty underground lyricists and the mainstream circuit. “We’re not gangstas, but we aren’t backpackers, either,” Basik says. “Bleu Collar represents what I believe is the majority of the world, the common man, with a creative flair.”

Basik, one half of Bleu Collar, first gained fame in the Los Angeles underground Hip Hop scene at the age of 14. He went on to link up with Eligh of the Living Legends and expanded his underground following. Basik was featured on two of Eligh’s albums before putting out his first solo effort, Apex Predator (1998). The extended EP became one of the top selling tapes on the Living Legends website. Basik then created The Righteous Brothers Project (1999) with Living Legends members Murs, Eligh and Scarub. Soon after Basik released a full length solo CD, At the Mercy of the City (2000), which further increased his underground fan base. Introduced by a mutual friend, Basik linked up with Reese One and formed Bleu Collar. Reese says, “It started with us doing one song for Basik’s next CD. But the songs were coming out so good we just kept going.”

With his extremely clever and blunt rhyme schemes, Reese One holds no cut cards for any song, topic, or issue. Rapping since the age of twelve Reese became known as one of the most feared battle rappers in Los Angeles, the constant challenges sharpened and honed his rhyme skills into the great emcee he is today. Now Reese has his heart and soul behind Bleu Collar. “To me Bleu Collar’s chemistry is unmatched, no one is bringing this caliber of music to the table,” he says. You can download it for free at their website: http://www.bleucollar.com  ;)
Unfortunately, the song "City of Angels" is not on it, but Justin dropped it on Dubcnn a few months ago. That song is sooooo good. Just use the search function on this forum and you should be able to find the date when the song was dropped...you can still download it then. It's worth it...

thanks crafty. bleu collar is seriously the new sound of LA. just something real fresh, and strays away from the typical gangsta rap theme.. i think of it as more sophisitciated los angeles rap, not nerdy by any means, but just music for those cats that are real up on what is new and fresh.

yup. quik told them that he usually doesnt give up beats for free, and that he doesnt know whether bleu collar sees themselves on Mad Science or another label in the future, but that Quik for sure wants to get down on some songs with them.
