Former Hot Boy Turk Gets 12 Years For Cop Shooting

Former Cash Money artist and Hot Boys member Turk was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Wednesday (April 26) by a Memphis judge after entering a "best interest plea" in the 2004 shooting of a sheriff's deputy.

Turk (Born Tab Virgil) entered an Alford plea, also known as a best-interest plea, in which a defendant may dispute some of the allegations but accepts an agreed-upon sentence to avoid a longer sentence if convicted at trial. The plea has the same legal effect as a guilty plea.

Turk pleaded to attempted second-degree murder and was handed the 12-year sentence. He faced up to 25 years if convicted as charged of attempted first-degree murder.

As SOHH previously reported, Turk was convicted of being a felon with a handgun, a fugitive with a handgun and a drug addict with a handgun in federal court last year.

The charges stemmed from the 2004 incident where the New Orleans-based rapper allegedly shot at a Shelby County SWAT member Chris Harris four times. According to ShelbyCounty detectives, Turk shot at Harris as he opened a closet door where the rapper was hiding during a drug raid at a Hickory Hill apartment on Jan. 26, 2004. Turk has vehemently denied shooting Harris.

State prosecutors have said they won't oppose Virgil serving his state and federal sentences consecutively.

the ballistics from Turk´s gun didn´t match those of the officers who were hit. one of the officers who were shot was actually shot by another SWAT team member. this sucks for Turk though coz he got like 10 years for the first case so we´ll never hear new music from him. maybe he had it coming to him for bein stupid as fuck. it´s interesting though that Baby and Slim didn´t help him out with lawyer fees and shit coz if they would´ve hooked him up with a super lawyer he prolly would´ve walked away with a couple of years.
