i put this on a different thread but I felt like putting this up again to see how much hate i'll get.
Now let me pretext this by saying I think Kobe is the best player in the league, that he should have won mvp this year and that he will easily go down as one of the greatest players to ever lace them up. I know most of you are die-hard Laker and Kobe fans and are not really old enough to have been around and witnessed Michael Jordan's entire career like I was, but after Kobe's fade out Game 7 against Pheonix the comparisons should stop forever.  No one changed the game, in all aspects like Jordan did.  And forget strategy, don't use that excuse, but there is no way Jordan would have ever accepted defeat like Kobe did.  I will never accuse Kobe of quitting but it looked like he accepted defeat.  Jordan would have left everything possible out there on the court trying to win that game even if the game was out of reach, even if that meant putting up 25 shots.  game 7 is the ultimate place to showcase the will of a warrior, win or lose.  Mike would have went to the point of exhaustion before he stopped trying to win.  Go back and watch the game 7 against the pacers in 98.  Indiana was the better team, yet Jordan willed his team to victory by shutting out reggie Miller in the fourth quarter and continually driving to the basket until he got his team over the top.  Mike got a lot more help that Kobe did against pheonix in that one though.  But also remember game 6 against the Jazz in the finals for Mike's 6th championship.  The rest of the team simply ran out of gas for that entire game. The team concept got thrown out the window  and again Mike willed his team to victory in legendary fashion.
Kobe really disappointed me, but by next year it will be forgotten.  Kobe still has a lot of career left and could easily win more championships than the 3 he has now. But let's compare Mike and Kobe and see what Kobe needs to do in his remaining 4-8 years. (which barring a miracle will be impossible)
Not withstanding a slight media bias against Kobe, how many times has Kobe been season MVP? How many times has he been Defensive Player of the Year? How many Finals MVP's has he won? How many times did Mike do that? So far it is 12-0 in favor of Jordan. and if you add all star game mvps that don't really count it is 15-1 in favor of Mike and it would have been 16-1 if Jermaine O'neal wouldn't have stupidly fouled Kobe at the end of Mike's very last one.
In the final comparison Kobe has a long way to go to match Mike.  Kobe has been in 4 finals, he is 3-1 with no MVP's.  Jordan was in 6 finals, he was 6-0 with 6 finals mvp's.  In my mind Jordan is the greatest player to ever play the game, and it is no contest.  I look forward to seeing what Kobe does in the years to come.  Unless he goes on a unbelievable run he will never match Mike.  Before you hate on me this really is nothing against Kobe.  Kobe may even have a liitle more talent than Mike did, and although he may or may not be a jerk, he will be one of the 5 or 6 greatest players ever. But up to this point no one has ever been as good as Air Jordan.  No one changed the game, in all aspects like Jordan did. Kobe or Lebron won't change the history of sports like Mike did. I think almost everyone who followed Mike from the beginning in 82-85 and witnessed his mind blowing and legendary career will agree that as great as Kobe is he will never be as great as Jordan was.  But this is just my opinion and i could be wrong.

No one changed the game like Michael did? LMFAO...Wilt fuckin' Chamberlain buddy.

You're using the same bullshit Charles Barkley used, only to have Kobe come to TNT personally and shut his ass up...Kobe disappeared in Game 7, blah blah blah. The thing is, he didn't. If you were watching the game, it was self-evident that the Lakers were losing that game because of their TEAM DEFENSE and if they wouldn't have stepped up together as a whole, there was no way to win...Phil Jackson is really upset with the media for pointing fingers at Kobe, because he's the one who told Kobe to continue trying to get the other players going so they can cut into the lead as a whole and Kobe can start taking over when the game was in reach...Unfortunately, all the players just folded under pressure and the lead kept growing. Kobe was out for most of the 4th quarter, because the game was pretty much a blow out...Anyone who uses Game 7 of the Phoenix/Lakers series to compare Kobe and Jordan is an idiot...I've respected your posts during your stay here and never doubted you nor believed you were someone "special" (you can still be famous), but what you said was ridiculous. And as for accomplishments, how old was Jordan when he won his first championship? How many 81 point games does Jordan have? How many 48 points in a half games does Jordan have? 62 in 3 quarter? I mean, I can go on forever with shit Kobe has done and Jordan hasn't, just like you did with Jordan, but that's NOT what makes a player great...Like you said, it's your opinion and you may be wrong. But it's ridiculous to speak of it as a fact, when we have no idea how Kobe will fare in the next 10 years or so, since he is just now entering his prime...PeACe

Well, I don't have a transcript, but basically what happened was when Kobe addressed the topic and explained the game-plan Phil and the Lakers were running, Barkley had nothing to say and didn't talk all that shit he usually does when Kobe isn't in the studio...Don't have the transcript, but I think it's on youtube or something...PeACe.

the thing is, no one on this board compares jordan to lebron.  Maybe a couple people have but not much that it dominated discussion.  It happens else where but here it doesnt.  So why address something here that isnt even a topic.

Yea, but they have the nerve to compare LeBron's greatness to Kobe's...Kobe is way closer to Jordan than LeBron is to Kobe, as of now. As I've been saying, we will see...PeACe

I figured I'd catch some heat for this post.  However, before you start throwing bricks at me, I think you need to reread my post.  I don't recall ever discrespecting Kobe. I like Kobe and he is most def the best player in the game right now. the only thing I said negative about Kobe was his game 7 performance. You can throw all the excuses in the world out but the fact is for the only time i can remember Kobe accepted defeat and didn't leave everything he could out on the floor.  My only point on that is not once did Jordan ever not leave everything he possibly had on the floor in such a crucial game, even as he was getting knocked down by the pistons before the 6 championships.  In the end none of us is Kobe so none of us will ever know what was in his heart during that game. Hey NIK whats up with the personal jabs.  Just because I didn't come on here bowing down to Kobe and simply stated MY opinion that I think Mike was the greatest player ever doesn't mean I'm not saying you don't have a right to your opinion.  I've always respected your posts and appreciated your support so let's not let this difference of opinion ruin that. (By the way I am not famous, I'm just a goofy and humble musician who has gotten very lucky). I just think the comparisons should stop FOR NOW. Kobe's got enough to worry about staying ahead of Lebron and D Wade.  It's not fair to Kobe or Mike to compare them yet.  I agree that a true comparision should not be made until they are both done playing.  I'm just sick of a few people with the stupid and completely ridiculous idea that Kobe has already passed Jordan.  At 27 Kobe is a little ahead of Mike at that age in some areas but Kobe has also played in the NBA longer than Jordan at age 27. So that is not a fair comparision either. In the end everyone has an opinion and no one is right and no one is wrong.  A majority of respected NBA people including Magic have stated many times that they also think Mike is the greatest player to ever live, so I don't think I'm alone in my opinion. Some people say Wilt, some say the big O and some say the biggest winner of them all Bill russell. I have no problem with people throwing out those names.
When I said no one changed the game like Mike I meant overall, on and off the court.  No athlete, except for Muhammad Ali, has ever made a bigger economic, global and athletic impact than Jordan did.   just wanted to clear that up.
Let's all agree that both Mike and Kobe are both incredible athletes and 2 of the best ever.  In the end I don't give a fuck about scoring averages or putting up 81 points (which was incredible).  Throw out the 5-0 lead Mike has over Kobe in the regular season MVP race. The only stats that mean anything are what did you do on the ultimate stage?
The facts are these and they are indisputable - In the NBA finals career totals so far are this. Kobe has appeared 4 times, with 3 championships but no series MVP's. Jordan made the finals 6 times. He was 6-0 with 6 series MVP's.  Kobe has a lot of career left. LEt's wait until its done to put Kobe in the same breathe as Mike.  Until then just appreciate what amazing things Jordan did and what amazing things Kobe is doing and will continue to do.  If you didn't witness and follow Jordan's whole career you just will never be able to comprehend what it was like.  He was a once in a lifetime athlete. I am forever blessed that I got to witness the entire career and see in person, in my opinion the greatest athlete who ever lived.  When Kobe's all done you may feel the same way about him and that's great. Just wait for a little while to put Kobe up there with Jordan.  Same with comparing Lebron with Kobe.  Lebron hasn't even won a championship yet.  Kobe's greatness is already established.  Lebron may end up being better than both Kobe and Mike, but at this point he is a galaxy away from being there with Mike and Kobe.  Wade is closer to Jordan and Kobe than Lebron is.  Let's all just sit back and enjoy the show.

I truely respect that as your opinion man, but I just didn't like the way you came at Kobe and talked him down because of the Game 7 catashtrophe, in which anyone in the Lakers coaching staff will tell you he is the least of the blame...Kobe scored 25 points in the first half and they were down 15. Obviously, Kobe was not gunna win the game alone...He did the right thing in trying to get the other guys going so that they can attack Phoenix as a team, because that's the only way they won if you watched the series. Did you even watch the game or are you just judging it based on what bullshit sporswriters wrote? The defense was horrible, Lakers were best at playing lock down defense when they got into an offensive rythym. None of us are Kobe, but we know what was in Kobe's heart, due to the fact that he explained it and we have no reason to believe otherwise...Like I've said though, we will see when it's all said and done, because Kobe has a long way ahead of him and in no way is it fair to say he will not be better than Jordan when it's all said and done, especially with the amazing ability we've seen him display...PeACe

exactly. and let's not forget - kobe wasn't ment to be a huge star. he was a backup for eddie jones, he worked his ass off to earn the starting spot and become the player we see today. he had a lot of flaws (ball handling, airballing, not living up to his potential) but he's fixed ALL of them.

people just don't like the comparisions because they're scared to admit anyone can be better than jordan at anything. just like most people are scared to admit that v.carter is a better dunker than mj.
