why are people so obsessed with dr dre

first of all, he doesnt even have a real solo cd, chronic, chronic 2001, they all feature bunch of different artists (he is not even on some songs)
2nd of all, people give him way too much credit for beats... most of the beats are not even entirely created by him, keys played by scott, help from mel man, tons of people saying he stole beats and didnt give credit etc etc
3rd.... yea he is cool on the mic but to tell u the truth he is not that great of a rapper if you compare it to lyrical mcs like crooked i, sly boogy etc, he doesnt write his own lyrics either
4th.... even with all of that, he barely releases any beats..... there are many other producers who release quality beats and cds and way more often than dre (quik for example)

 yea everything with his name on it is hot and will be worshipped on this website, but i just want people to realize they give him way too much credit, he has a very good ear and connections

1.. He's a producer/rapper. He's showcasing both sides.

2.. You don't understand was a producer is. A producer guides, and oversee's the project. If they don't like something its changed. Look at all the interviews about how Dre will get people to do 100s of takes so shit sounds right. Quincy Jones doesn't play all the instruments on his albums. Stevie wonder didn't play everything on Songs In the Key..  So quit hating.
Theres a huge difference between a Pete Rock/Primo kind of producer sticking dusty loops in an MPC/SP12 and directing real musicians to lay down and mix a song.
Compare the role of a producer between Rap and every other musical genre. The producer label is really misplaced when applied to these 'beatmakers'.

3.. Yeah he doesn't write his own lyrics. But he's reject shit he doesnt like. He sent Still DRE back to Jay-Z coz it was too east coast oriented.. It was still his concept. Dre's fingerprints run from NWA -> Chronic -> Snoop -> 2001. They're there if you look. One cursory example.. The concept of "the next episode" was first mentioned by Dre.. on efil4zaggin..

4.. Get real. If you had a gazzillion dollars and a family and didn't really need to work for the rest of your life.. Would you be holed up in a studio all day?


Yes Dre's NOT the best rapper, not the best 'musician' but he';s the best producer. What that means is as a quality control thing, as the person that stamps his seal of approval on things, as a person that control's and oversee's the creation and tweaking of something to conclusion he is unmatched.
