not classic, but I'd agree, not one bad track.  some avg tracks, lots of bangers.  Its an album I can listen to all the way thru without skipping a track.  thats extremely rare for me nowadays.

nah... Chronic was a classic like a month after it came out, Illmatic was an classic right on the shelves, and Paid in Full was a classic before it was released. A classic in what Cube was going for would follow these thread setting albums. I don't think he did it, but shooting for classic and getting one great album is not bad.

This just goes to show how "classic" is such an arbitrary term when it ain't deserved...you earn classic status, you don't just have it when you drop.

I dunno about that..."The Chronic" was getting crazy love from critics, but I don't think it was recognized as a classic until everybody in hip-hop started jumping on the G-Funk bandwagon and radio started playing gangsta records more.  I wouldn't have said "The Chronic" was a classic until around the time that '93 was ending.

And "Illmatic" was most def not a classic right on the shelves, either...that album took two years just to go Gold.  It was certainly anticipated in the underground, ain't no doubt about that, but it's not like everybody was bumping the hell outta it all across the world...it took a lot of time to grow on people.

this shit is classic to me.....theres not any other albums fuckin with this in the last couple years IMO....Cube is the fuckin man for droppin this cd......If you ask me, Cube just came outa nowhere and fucked up the rap game with "Laugh Now, Cry Later".....

Well, I think it's an excellent album, but I hate to call anything a "classic" when it comes out. My philosophy is: "play it again in a year or two, and see how it sounds then." But my gut feeling is that LNCL won't get played out in a month for me the way WAR and (especially) PEACE both did (and I also eventually got a little tired of TERRORIST THREATS, although that one had some cuts). You can tell when an artist likes what he's doing, and I have a feeling these are the songs Cube wants to do, whereas I have a suspicion that WAR and PEACE were both compromised to some degree.

As I said in another post, THE SOURCE gave LNCL four mics, and I think that's probably about right.

My favorites right now are:

Why We Thugs (Cube's conscious/political style is back)
Smoke Some Weed (I like how he switches from one topic to another)
Child Support (smart assessment of where the mainstream rap game is today)
Doin What it Pose 2 Do (nice combo of boasting and humor, and that chorus is addictive)
Laugh Now, Cry Later (another cool issues-oriented song. "Tell' em I'm a nice nigga..." LOL!)
Growin' Up (If you don't feel this one, your heart's not beating)
Click-Clack--Get Back! (a scary, slammin' and HILARIOUS "step-to-me-I'll-fuck-you-up" song)
Spittin' Pollaseeds (nice funk production, Kokane sounds revived, and of course WC's dope)
