Kanye is as Hip-Hop as Run DMC when they walked through the Rock N Roll hall of fame, saying they were the kings of rock.

That was aa music video and it was presented in the same tongue and cheek way there other videos were presented. Rev Run wasn't going into interviews bragging about how superior he is in a very serious way or making threats about not winning a Grammy, or saying the Bible wasn't well written and should include him. With RUN DMC they were jokers having a good time. With Kanye he is a joke living in the spotlight on borrowed time.

P.S. The only difference between his production style and Puffy's is Kanye turns the tempo up a bit and loops less popular songs. It's not old school production. There is nothing about his production that makes me think DJ Premier, or Marley Marl. Then again if you mean old school like Rapper's Delight production then I can agree, bit that's the kind of production that's been with Hip Hop forever. Whether it was Run DMC on Tricky, Hammer on Can't Touch This, Vanilla Ice on Ice Ice Baby, Dre on G Thang, Warren G on Regulate, Puffy on I'll be Missing You Dre and Em on My Name Is, or Kanye on Jesus Walks, it's all the same; take a good established piece of music, loop it, add a drum track, and call yourself a genius. There are complex very artistic ways to use samples like a lot did in the 80s, and even Moby did a few years ago, but Kanye's style is not one of those ways.

I was talking old school like Rappers Delight, like Run DMC, and his cocky attitude is the same as those who of that era. Rappers then boosted all the time, in very immature ways. In fact, that era reflected more of a Nelly feel than a N.W.A./Public Enemy feel. Kanye is a throw back to the early 80's, with meaningful songs, old school production, and bragging at every chance he gets. Kanye is as Hip-Hop as Run DMC, as the Sugar Hill Gang, Kanye is right, Hip-Hop since 1978, 'cause that's his era. His a student of the game, and it shows.

to say he has changed the game or made his own style is ridiculous

give it more time and he'll be another 50 Cent, gone with the wind

No on can deny he is one of the greatest producers of all time, plus he dropped two classic albums, and I agree he is a cocky arrogant prick who I don't really like as a person, but as far as music goes he's fuckin' dope

I never said he wasn't hip hop or that rappers aren't/weren't cocky. The very idea of rap is about being cocky. 90% of hip hop is bragging, whether it's about who's the bigger gangster, who gets more and better girls, who has more jewlery, or who is the better rapper, but the difference between Kanye's attitude and the old school attitude is that Kanye says very contraversial things probably for the sake of being contraversial and keeping his name out in the mainstream, and it's often utterly stupid. Someone like KRS-One may have even been more cocky than Kanye but no where near as stupid. Some of the stuff KRS would say was silly but it wouldn't push the same buttons Kanye tries to push. Kanye gets large groups of people very angry at him because he comes across so serious.

And as far as meaningful songs. Most of Kanye's songs are pseudo meaningful. There isn't that much of a difference in Kanye's lyrics and any othere rappers. His are just toned down as far as violence and vulgarity go.
