I'm sure the Quik fans are sick of seeing this....
« on: June 16, 2006, 10:40:32 AM »
I'm sure a lot of you have seen the artist bio for DJ Quik that is sold to almost every major music website (VH1, Billboard, MTV, etc). Some of the highlights include:

"Like many of his West Coast gangsta peers in the early '90s, DJ Quik's career began wonderfully before slowly descending with each passing year"

"By the late-'90s though, when gangsta rap fell out of favor and Quik's albums began to sound increasingly predictable, many tagged the artist as a has-been, something that had happened to most early-'90s gangsta rappers."

"Arista finally dropped him following the lukewarm reception given to his Balance & Options album (2000)."

My personal favorite....
"By the early 2000s, most of his initial fans had long abandoned him and his releases became increasingly rare. Many criticized him for being formulaic, while others for lightening his style."

 :grumpy: :grumpy:

It just pisses me off that dude doesn't get the recognition he deserves. I know,  i know, same sad song but i just don't understand how dude gets shitted on. The guy that did this bio seriously needs to check his shit. Dumbo cunt motherfucker.

I'd venture to guess that the guy who wrote this is not a hip hop head. Quik didn't look like he fell off at all at last night's show.
Being a LAKER is a privilige. Unfortunately some "Lakers" have forgotten that.

^^These statments aren't too far off, although to label him "predictable" is just crazy.

Better bio: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DJ_Quik

Is that bio actually on VH1, MTV ect?

Theres hundreds of artists who deserve a bio like that more than Quik.

"That’s probably the best that could have been expected for a guy too talented to be ignored, but too complicated to be stereotyped according to hip-hop’s star-making machinery."

^^ is that not the case or what  :o

I didn't know that Quik had the same birthday as me.

It is a shame that Quik doesn't get the credit he deserves.

I really disagree with this bio.  Quik ain't one of my favorite rappers or producers by any means, but I give dude credit for being one of the few West Coast cats willing to try new shit.  He may not be as popular as he was in the early-90s, but he's still respected quite a bit...you only have to look at all the A-listers he's produced for in the past few years (Snoop, Luda, Jay-Z, etc.) to realize he's still relevent to hip-hop today, which is more than can be said for 99% of the West Coast rappers/producers out there right now.
