Everyonce in a while, somebody resurrects it, but it's nothing compared to what it used to be.  So far, the only eternal rap is the Knowledge rap, like de la soul brings.

how I see it is, back then when you came out, and there weren't many rappers, it was all about talent, now its just who can look the most commercial and sell the most

I think Gangsta Rap is dead, at least in the mainstream.  Dre and Snoop don't do it anymore like they use to back in the early to mid 90s.  Now they just do West coast rap, and aren't as explicit as they use to be.  There still is Gangsta Rap, but it is mainly underground like some of that X-Raided stuff.  Crooked I and the new artists at Tha Row are gansta rappers.  But, nowadays, everyone is now rhyming like Dre and Snoop did.  It's stupid.

This about sums it up.  G-Rap aint dead.  Theres just too many booty ass artists takin up rack space at The Warehouse.

naww i don'T think it's because of their death , cause after pac die , the west was still hot , and when the beatle broke up or retired, their music was still tight. so it's another event that got the west down, maybe the arrival of jay-z pops shit , that pin the west down , 1...2...3 fo long time now
