How much is jay-z actually respected on tha street
« on: January 27, 2002, 03:54:18 PM »
Does any1 on tha streets respect him. Does he have any street credibility.  I was talkin to my cousin.  he lives in queens an a lot of peeps he talks to dont like Jay-Z.  He said tha only people that really listen to Jay-Z are white kids an those that are very immature as he put it.  He said tha kids that are hardcore cant stand Jay-Z.  I was talkin to some of tha rap fans in my school they think Jay-Z is overatted an that he is too commercialized an that he hasnt dropped a good album since reasonable doubt.  My question is how respected is Jay-Z on tha streets.  I remember some1 on tha board said jay-z is runnin tha rap industry b/c he has respect of tha MTV audience,  tha streets,  an tha critics.  From what i what i have heard from others,  it sounds like jay-z gets very little respect from those on tha streets an hip hop heads, even on other rap boards people cant stand him.

I don't know. People out here don't really listen to him, or really care. If his on the radio, people will just listen to that. I can only speak for Snoop Dogg, who it seems everybody likes him, even the gangsta ass muthaphukkaz.

yeah that's pretty much how it is over here in bakersfield, the only people i know of that really listen to jay-z are the people who listen to nelly and ja rule, most of the street peope over here listen to underground gangster rap, latino rap, and snoop an Co.

no one really hates him over here but he's not liked that much either, he's actually came here twice, once for the hard knock life tour and once just by himself, the hard knock life tour sold out here and when i went  it seems like most of the people came to just see dmx and redman becuase they were quiet as hell during everyone elses set and like 25% of the crowd had left by the time jay-z took the stage, and only 800 people bothered to show up when he came here solo

Out here in Cali, Jay Z isnt very popular. Cats out here only bump Pac, Dre/Snoop, Eminem, Xzibit, Bone, Nas, Cube, Biggie, and thats about it. Mothafuckaz go crazy with Pac out here, and All Eyez On Me remains the most popular album to bump in the ride here in Cali. Ive heard Jay Z a few times, but not nearly as much as the artists I mentioned above.

Hell yeah... but 'Pac was the west coast king, undisputed. Jay-Z in Cali is not the most popular person. I don't hear hating, just not much of anything except he plays on the radio. Snoop has took over as king of L.A., his all over the radio, and everyone from white kids, to females, to Latinos, to gangsta ass muthaphukkaz love him. If Snoop died tomorrow, it'd be almost as bad as when 'Pac died. I know in the west it's might be the opposite, with Snoop getting little love and Jigga getting mad love, but the Nas battle affected that a bit. Who knows, anyone from N.Y. that can clearify, because on a westcoast board, more can tell you about what's it like on the Westcoast.

No doubt. Everyone here who knows my tastes very well knows im a diverse person, and I listen to all types of hip hop. But when it comes to bumping shit in my ride, Pac OWNS everyone. Ill play all-types of shit in my home stereo, but in the car, I represent Pac 90% of the time.

damn....this shit haz realy gon mothafuckin" far....it haz turned to some kind of a hiphop board syndrom....peepz iz shitin" all over JAY-Z on most of the boardz......after all this shit it"z hard to believe JIGGA sellz multi platinum recordz...
to the people who think dat peepz who normally bump JA RULE , NELLY and DMX bump Jigga, you might be right to a certain point....but...and there iz a big but ....there iz peepz...like me, for example (who alwayz had prefeared lyricz to the beatz....i had said lotsa times dat tha rapperz i like...i would listen to, under tha poorest production)
that think of JAY-Z as of one of the most briliant, sharp, with a vocabularry sized/fast mind people, to ever bless a mic....and to tell you tha ruth...when i hear peepz (even people who r clearly fuckin gagsta wannabes that bump rap only to look in a certain way in fronta their friendz) that say jigga iz poppy or that hiz lyricz iz either simple or hiz flow iz wack, i realy feel like slappin anyone else who"ll repeat this piece of nonsence bullshit....
as many peepz who consider themselves true headz...i love all tha lyrical great masterpiecez from Ra"z early shit to "ILLMATIC"....to "ready to die" to "me against tha world"
TO "reasonable doubt"(ETC.) of course....but  when peepz iz saying somethin like "i bump kurupt cuaze he real...but jigga iz shit cauze he poppy" i almost explode from tha senceless underrating of who iz far superior lyricaly...what make peepz say shit like that...iz it tha sallez....??!...-if it botherz you , i only have to say that Pac WAZ SELLIN much mo....and i dont see yall hating on him (dont get me wrong it"z not that you should..;) )...i"m just saying that yo hate iz completly tha oposite of logic....to tell you tha truth...peepz who r not permenet rap fanz...only them....r bumpin jigga for hiz beatz....professional peepz in tha game...know hiz worth...
i can understand tha sychological reasonz for tha hating jigga recieves (sound like a joke but i"m dead serious...and i learn sychology btw)...:peepz wanna save money (whaz better than denying hiz quallity, saying "i"m still a rap fan, not liking garbage don"t make me less of a rap fan"...)...and as i"ve done my research (belive it or not ...lol) on this syndrom i discovered it iz tha most popular protection mechanizm....
saving money iz one of tha motives...there iz more...peepz effected by gangsta wannabe"z....and what makes it more of a syndom iz dat it haz happen to many peepz at tha same time....add it to tha beef wit tha long forgotten Nas (no diss to ILLMATIC...neither to STILLMATIC) which saved us enough money by releasin bullshit albumz one after another...which were clearly garbage...he earned hiz shine time...so yea...
letz cround him tha king of NY....if it wazn"t NAS you"d find someone else....
some peepz iz hatind on Jigg cauze of tha confidence he sprayz throught hiz carear (call it bragin if it helpz you)...
but hating peepz 4 topical reasonz iz childish and dumb...
so basicly...a rappa should conect a coupla wordz dat iz widely known as serious and deep to make you like him right?...-lemme answer....fo sho" peepz...dat"z how it workz for tha so called by me anti-censourerz...(cauze when u prefer a track to another cauze of a topic YOU LIKE MORE....you basicly do what sencourship does...but to tha other side)...as i send for milli"z of times....tha topic iz every rapperz choice...tha thing that should be demanded from an artist iz tha way he tellz this topic....atleast it iz imo...
oh well....keep denying and try convinsing yoselves by all kindz of toolz and protection mechanizmz you want...from self convincing he iz wack....to discussin tha so called street cred. .....i"m sure this will help you convince yoselves you like him less.....

p.s if you didnt get shit from what i just scribbled for a whole hour....than just forget i even said somethin....aight?
We are all human beings isn't that a good enough reason for peace?

Jigga doesn't push as many units here in the UK as he does in the US, our charts here are flooded with dance, garage & pop music, rap tunes make the top 40 now & again but it's nowhere nr as popular & dominating as it is in the US. Although I copped Blueprint none of my friends that enjoy  hip-hop really bump him or take much notice of him, they are mostly into the Wu, Nas, british & underground hip-hop, most of them don't really bump much Westcoast shit either except for me.

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

Jigga gets love in South London, loads of mixtapes with him on, same thing with Biggie, Erick Sermon, Marley Marl, De La Soul, Wu, its mostly NY cats who get play.  Very little love for the west down there, in North London, Jungle and Drum N Bass are huge and ive heard a few Jigga/Eminem mixes coming out of cars, and its mostly Asian cats who bump Pac in the city (East London).
