After just paying close attention to everything that's happened this year, and from reading comments on here and listening to people talk......record sales DO NOT measure the impact that this CD had.

For one.....the songs got a LOT of play on radio nationwide, which is something the Bay hasn't had since the mid 90's. Second....as far as people who aren't involved in the industry are concerned, only those like us are really checking the sales like that....the average cat may not know if 40 is platimun or not. So the companies may be looking and saying "damn, 40 had major play and didn't sell", which may make some companies feel that it's not worth taking a chance on a Bay or West Coast artist.

At the same time, the fact that the entire nation knows what hyphy is, and that they know about ghost riding whips and going dumb and the Bay's culture, is a direct result of E-40 and what he did with the movement. So he has at least cracked the door open for more Bay artists to succeed. But at the same time, people who are fans of this movement aren't really going to check for an artist just because they are from the Bay...but because they have the hyphy sound. So it is a helluva win-loss situation to me.

i never expected 40 to hit platinum and anyone that did is a fool

40 only hit plat once and that was the peak of west coast rap. what makes u possibly think e-40 could pull that off in the year 2006?

the biggest artists of the year barely do multi plat

40s last 2-3 albums have sold around 300,000 records each. He hasnt had a gold plaque since almost the late 90s

the fact that this album produced 2 hit singles, introduced hyphy, got mainstream play and acceptance, and went gold in the process is a phenomenal feat for 40


its the most he can possibly do...maybe 600,000 overall if theres a decent 3rd single. His style is too unique. Here in Toronto, while his 2 singles got play, no one likes 40.

There are alot of fans that like artists and burn their albums. I guess from a financial standpoint you are not supportive but I know there are a gang of people that are vibing off of burned copies. 40 accomplished the goal of getting the Bay back into the spotlight so at least for the new cats coming up it will open up some doors.
